Cardinals vs Saints: Betting Props and Week 1 Storylines
The NFL season is finally back, and one of the most talked-about matchups in Week 1 is the Arizona Cardinals taking on the New Orleans Saints. Arizona, led by quarterback Kyler Murray, is coming in as the clear favorite, but that hasn’t stopped bettors from looking beyond the point spread to find value in prop bets and longshot plays. And honestly, that’s where things get pretty interesting.
For the Saints, the offense is once again expected to revolve around running back Alvin Kamara. Even though New Orleans is breaking in rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler, Kamara’s role isn’t in question. Last season, he logged 15 or more carries in nine of his 14 games and averaged over 16 carries per contest. Given that Arizona allowed one of the highest yards per carry rates in 2024, it wouldn’t be surprising if Kamara is leaned on heavily to keep the offense moving and take pressure off Rattler. That’s why a bet on Kamara going over 14.5 rushing attempts feels like one of the safer prop plays on the board.

On the other side, Arizona has one of the league’s most underrated weapons in tight end Trey McBride. His connection with Murray grew stronger as the 2024 season went along, and the numbers back it up. McBride was targeted 147 times, hauled in 111 catches, and topped 1,100 yards. He closed the year with double-digit targets in nearly every game down the stretch. Now he gets to face a Saints defense that finished near the bottom in passing yards allowed. That makes the over on 6.5 receptions an intriguing spot, especially since Murray tends to look his way when the offense needs a steady play.
But if you’re the type who enjoys taking a shot at a longer bet, then Rashid Shaheed’s anytime touchdown odds might be worth a glance. Shaheed has earned a reputation as a deep-ball threat, and while his 2024 season was cut short by injury, he still found the end zone three times in just six appearances. With Rattler under center, the Saints may be forced to take a few risks downfield if they fall behind, and Shaheed is exactly the kind of player who can flip a game on a single play.
And it doesn’t stop there—models and betting experts have been eyeing Kyler Murray’s passing yard totals as another longshot opportunity. His over/under has been set around 222 yards, but projections suggest real value in backing him to throw for 260 or more. Against a Saints defense that surrendered over 238 passing yards per game last year, the setup is there for Murray to air it out, especially with Marvin Harrison Jr. now in the fold.
So whether you’re looking at Kamara’s workload, McBride’s reception totals, Shaheed’s big-play potential, or Murray’s arm, this Week 1 matchup is loaded with betting angles. Arizona may be the favorite, but the real story could be written in the props. And as fans know, that’s often where the best drama unfolds on opening weekend.
