Chargers Face Key Injuries Ahead of Monday Night Clash with Raiders

The Los Angeles Chargers are heading into Week 2 with some tough challenges on their plate, and it’s not just about facing their AFC West rival, the Las Vegas Raiders. The real headline going into Monday Night Football is the injury situation. The latest report has made it clear that the Bolts won’t be at full strength when the lights come on in Las Vegas.

First off, linebacker Daiyan Henley was added to the injury list on Monday afternoon due to illness. He’s officially questionable for the matchup, which leaves the Chargers with some uncertainty at linebacker. If Henley can’t go, that unit will be stretched even thinner.

The bigger concern, though, is that two defensive starters have already been ruled out. Safety Elijah Molden will sit because of a hamstring issue. He had been limited earlier in the week but then couldn’t practice on Friday or Saturday, and now he’s confirmed out. Linebacker Denzel Perryman will also miss the game with an ankle injury, having not practiced at all during the lead-up. That’s a lot of defensive leadership missing in one night, especially against a divisional opponent.

Linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips is also on the report, dealing with a toe injury. His status is questionable, though he did manage limited practices late in the week. Meanwhile, cornerback Tarheeb Still seems to be trending in the right direction after a calf issue, going from limited to full participation.

On the other side, the Raiders aren’t exactly at full health either. Rookie tight end Brock Bowers is questionable with a knee injury, and guard-center Jackson Powers-Johnson has already been ruled out because of a concussion. Linebacker Elandon Roberts, who had been dealing with an elbow injury, looks likely to play after finishing the week with full practice.

So, what does all this mean? For the Chargers, missing two defensive starters is going to put a lot of pressure on their depth and scheme. Monday night games always carry a little extra energy, but going up against a Raiders team that’s hungry for a win in front of their home crowd is no easy task. Fans can expect to see some younger players or backups stepping into bigger roles. And in the NFL, that often leads to those “next man up” moments where unheralded guys get their shot to shine.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Pacific at Allegiant Stadium. The atmosphere is going to be electric, and while the Chargers have some big names sidelined, the story of this game might come down to how well the replacements step up under the bright lights of primetime.
