Concacaf Unveils 2024/25 Player of the Year Nominees
Concacaf has just revealed the nominees for its prestigious 2024/25 Player of the Year Awards, and the buzz around the football community is already heating up. These awards shine a spotlight on the standout men’s and women’s players across the region, and this year’s list is packed with talent and historic achievements.
The awards are split into two main categories: Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year and Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year. The nominees were selected based on their performances during the 2024/25 season, drawing from both international competitions and club achievements. Coaches, captains, media representatives, and fans will all have a say in who ultimately takes home the honors, with voting now officially open.
On the men’s side, Canadian striker Jonathan David has captured plenty of attention. His year was nothing short of historic. At the international level, he became Canada’s all-time top scorer, surpassing the 36-goal mark in just 67 appearances. One of those goals was especially memorable—the decisive strike in Canada’s 2-1 win over the United States in the Concacaf Nations League third-place match. At club level, David shone brightly with LOSC Lille, where he scored seven goals in the UEFA Champions League—the most ever by a Concacaf player in a single edition this century. Add to that his 16 goals in Ligue 1, placing him among the top scorers in France, and it’s easy to see why he’s among the leading contenders.

David is joined by other stars, including Mexico’s Edson Álvarez, who scored the winning goal in the Gold Cup final and thrived with West Ham in the Premier League, and Raúl Jiménez, who not only powered Mexico to Nations League glory but also became Fulham’s top scorer in England. Rounding out the men’s field are Ángel Sepúlveda, Malik Tillman, and Manfred Ugalde—each with standout campaigns of their own.
The women’s list is just as impressive. Jamaican forward Khadija Shaw made history by sweeping awards in England, including the PFA Women’s Player of the Year, while Mexico’s Jacqueline Ovalle had a remarkable season with Tigres UANL, scoring 28 goals before making a record-breaking move to the Orlando Pride. The United States is represented strongly as well, with Emily Fox, who helped her country to Olympic gold while also starring for Arsenal, and Lindsey Heaps, who not only captained the U.S. but also won FIFA’s The Best award. Other nominees include Mexico’s Charlyn Corral, the top scorer in Liga MX Femenil, and Haiti’s Melchie Dumornay, a rising star with Lyon.
The winners will be determined through a unique 100-vote system that balances input from national team coaches and captains, regional media, and fan votes. Fan participation carries weight, with the top three finishers in online voting contributing crucial points to the final tally. Voting remains open until September 30, 2025.
In addition to Player of the Year honors, fans will also get to vote for the “Goal of the Year,” celebrating the most spectacular strikes across all Concacaf competitions. With names like Lionel Messi, Raúl Jiménez, and Christine Sinclair among the nominees, this category promises fireworks of its own.
For now, all eyes are on Jonathan David, Khadija Shaw, and the rest of the nominees as the countdown begins. Who will be crowned Concacaf’s best of the best for 2024/25 will soon be decided, with fans playing an important role in shaping that outcome.
