Dani Dyer’s Strictly Journey Cut Short After Ankle Fracture
Dani Dyer’s much-anticipated Strictly Come Dancing journey has come to an abrupt and heartbreaking end before it really had the chance to begin. The 29-year-old TV personality, best known for winning Love Island back in 2018, confirmed that she has been forced to withdraw from this year’s competition after fracturing her ankle during rehearsals.
The accident happened last Friday while Dani was training for her first live performance. She explained that she “landed funny” during practice and initially believed it was just a twisted foot. However, over the weekend the swelling became worse, and after undergoing an MRI scan on Monday, doctors confirmed that the injury was actually a fracture. Because of the seriousness of the injury, medical advice was very clear—continuing to dance, especially something as demanding as the quickstep, was not an option.
In a heartfelt statement, Dani admitted she was devastated by the news, saying that “heartbroken” doesn’t even begin to cover how she feels. She had already taken part in the show’s pre-recorded launch episode, where she was paired with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin, and she described their partnership as something she was really looking forward to exploring on the dancefloor. Sadly, the injury has stopped her progress before the competition’s first official week even got underway.

Dani also took to Instagram to share her emotions directly with fans. In a tearful video, she said she had been having “the best time ever” and was “absolutely gutted” about having to step away from the show. She added that she would be taking a short break from social media to process everything but promised to return to cheer on her fellow contestants from the sidelines. She praised everyone involved in the show as “absolutely amazing” and said she would miss the experience deeply.
The disappointment was echoed by the Strictly team. Executive producer Sarah James described Dani and Nikita’s partnership as having got off to “the most sensational start” and expressed how “incredibly sad” everyone was to see her withdraw. Head judge Shirley Ballas sent her love and reminded Dani that health must always come first, while professional dancers like Dianne Buswell and Johannes Radebe posted messages of support. Dani’s father, actor Danny Dyer, even left a simple broken-heart emoji on Instagram, capturing the family’s shared disappointment.
This marks the second celebrity exit before the live competition has started. Actor and DJ Kristian Nairn, best known for his role in Game of Thrones , had already pulled out earlier this season due to medical reasons, with Emmerdale actor Lewis Cope stepping in as his replacement.
For Dani Dyer, the journey may have ended before it could truly take off, but the affection and encouragement from fans and fellow dancers alike suggest that her sparkle on the dancefloor will not be forgotten. And while this season is not to be, she has made it clear that her heart remains with the show—and she will be cheering for every single contestant who still gets the chance to live out the Strictly dream.
