Deadly Shooting Attack Rocks Jerusalem’s Ramot Junction

This morning in Jerusalem, tragedy struck at Ramot Junction, one of the busiest intersections in the city. As commuters gathered at a bus stop shortly after rush hour, gunfire suddenly erupted. Two attackers drove up in a vehicle and opened fire directly at civilians waiting along the roadside. The attack left six people dead and more than a dozen others injured, several of them in critical condition.

According to Israeli police, the attackers were quickly confronted. A security officer and even a civilian at the scene drew their weapons and returned fire. Both gunmen were killed, preventing what officials believe could have been an even greater loss of life. Still, the aftermath was described as chaotic—ambulances rushed in, stretchers carried the wounded, and security forces swarmed the area, cordoning off streets and searching for any additional threats.

The victims of the attack included three men in their thirties, two men in their fifties, and a woman also in her fifties. Emergency responders worked frantically to stabilize the injured, with several rushed to nearby hospitals in very serious condition. Later in the day, hospital staff confirmed that a 57-year-old man who had been critically wounded also succumbed to his injuries, raising the death toll further.

Israeli leaders immediately responded. President Isaac Herzog called it a “painful and difficult morning,” emphasizing that innocent civilians—men, women, and children—had been murdered in cold blood. He praised what he called “acts of heroism” by those who intervened, saying their courage prevented more lives from being taken. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled a court appearance in his ongoing corruption trial to visit the site personally. Standing at the scene, he declared that Israel was still “at war against terrorism,” not only in Gaza and the West Bank but now once again in Jerusalem itself.

The international reaction was swift. Leaders from across Europe condemned the violence, with French President Emmanuel Macron stressing that the cycle of bloodshed must end and that only a political solution could restore peace. Italy, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and others echoed similar messages, calling for a ceasefire and renewed efforts toward a two-state solution.

Although Hamas did not officially claim responsibility for the attack, the group issued a statement welcoming it. Security analysts have already noted that tensions have been mounting in both Jerusalem and the West Bank, and Israeli officials had been warned just days earlier about the risk of escalating violence.

This latest shooting has been described as the deadliest attack in Jerusalem in more than two years. The memory of past assaults, such as the 2023 synagogue shooting, was immediately revived. Today’s events serve as yet another grim reminder of the fragility of security in the region, and how quickly ordinary mornings can turn into moments of terror.

As investigations continue and leaders issue their appeals, the grief of families and the fear among residents of Jerusalem linger. For many, this was not only a violent assault on innocent people but also a chilling symbol of the unresolved conflict that continues to cast its shadow over daily life.
