Emerald Fennell’s Bold Take onWuthering Heightswith Robbie and Elordi
The first trailer for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights has just been released, and it is already sparking major excitement in the film world. The Gothic classic by Emily Brontë, first published back in 1847, has been reimagined many times before, but this version feels especially charged, especially with the star power of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi at its center.
Robbie steps into the role of Catherine Earnshaw, the spirited and torn heroine, while Elordi embodies Heathcliff, the brooding antihero whose passion and rage define the story. Their chemistry is already being talked about after the trailer dropped, with moments of intensity and intimacy shown that suggest this will be one of the most daring takes on the material yet. The film promises to capture the obsession, heartbreak, and vengeance that have made Wuthering Heights endure for nearly two centuries.

Promising Young Woman won her an Academy Award for screenwriting, and her follow-up Saltburn cemented her reputation for bold storytelling. This project marks her return to Gothic romance, but with her distinctively provocative style. It’s also the third time she’s collaborated with Robbie’s production company LuckyChap, showing just how strong that creative partnership has become.
Alongside Robbie and Elordi, the cast includes Hong Chau as Nelly Dean, Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton, and Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton. Newcomers Owen Cooper, Charlotte Mellington, and Vy Nguyen will appear as younger versions of the central characters—Heathcliff, Catherine, and Nelly—making their feature film debuts. These fresh faces add another layer of intrigue, since much of the novel’s emotional weight comes from the way childhood experiences ripple into adult tragedies.
The project itself caused a stir in Hollywood before a single frame was shot. A fierce bidding war erupted once the lead cast was confirmed, with Netflix reportedly offering a staggering $150 million. But in the end, Warner Bros. secured the film for $80 million, and it will now be distributed globally by them. The release date has already been set for February 13, 2026—strategically timed for Valentine’s Day, even though the story is far from a conventional romance.
This adaptation is arriving after a long history of film and television versions, from Laurence Olivier’s iconic 1939 portrayal to more recent miniseries. But with Fennell’s fearless storytelling and Robbie and Elordi’s star power, it feels as though a fresh and very modern Gothic storm is about to be unleashed on audiences.
So, when the film hits theaters next year, viewers will not just be revisiting Brontë’s windswept moors—they will be stepping into Emerald Fennell’s haunting, sensual, and uncompromising vision of Wuthering Heights .
