Falcons and Panthers Clash in Pivotal Week 3 Matchup
The NFL’s Week 3 spotlight is landing squarely on Charlotte this Sunday, where the Atlanta Falcons will square off against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium. Both teams enter this matchup with plenty of storylines, and while Atlanta comes in favored by six points, the Panthers are eager to defend their home turf and shake off another slow start to the season.
Atlanta has been positioned as the stronger side heading into the game. Odds from BetMGM put the Falcons at -275 on the moneyline, with the Panthers at +220. The over/under total has been set at 43.5 points. Analysts and oddsmakers alike point to Atlanta’s backfield as one of the biggest factors. Running backs Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier have begun to establish themselves as one of the league’s most effective duos, and they are expected to be a tough test for Carolina’s defense. Robinson, in particular, has been dominant in matchups against NFC South rivals, torching defenses with his combination of speed and vision. Just last week against the Vikings, he ran for 143 yards, showing once again that he is a difference-maker whenever the ball is in his hands.

His last outing against Atlanta was memorable: a thrilling Week 18 duel where he threw for five total touchdowns and carried his team to a 44-38 overtime win. Fast forward to this year, and things have been less steady. Young has turned the ball over five times in his first five quarters of 2025, though he nearly pulled off a stunning comeback against the Chargers by tossing three second-half touchdowns. Head coach Dave Canales has said he’s encouraged by Young’s resilience and growth, believing the offense is beginning to find its rhythm despite the 0-2 start.
The Panthers’ rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan has been a bright spot, already racking up 168 yards through two games. While he hasn’t yet found the end zone, he’s become Young’s most reliable target. On the other hand, 2024 first-round pick Xavier Legette has struggled to make an impact, adding pressure for him to deliver soon as others like veteran Hunter Renfrow continue producing.
On defense, the Falcons are drawing plenty of attention after shutting down Minnesota’s offense in Week 2. Head coach Raheem Morris praised his unit’s energy, but Atlanta will have to adjust without star cornerback A.J. Terrell, who’s sidelined with a hamstring injury. His absence could open opportunities for Young and Carolina’s receivers.
So what can fans expect? Predictions have been all over the map. Some models favor the Falcons comfortably, calling for a 25–10 type of outcome, while others suggest Carolina could edge out a win. ESPN’s matchup predictor gives Atlanta a 56.9% chance, while Dimers’ simulations put Carolina slightly ahead with a 55% probability.
