Giants Fans Boo as Daboll Won’t Commit to Wilson Starting

The New York Giants’ season just got a lot more complicated, and the story centers on quarterback Russell Wilson. After Sunday night’s 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Brian Daboll was asked if Wilson would remain the starter going into next week’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. His response was blunt and telling: “I’m not going to answer that.”

Wilson’s night against Kansas City was a frustrating one. He completed 18 of 32 passes for just 160 yards, with no touchdowns and two costly interceptions. He did manage 27 yards on the ground, including the team’s longest run of the night, but he was also sacked twice and hit repeatedly. The struggles left fans restless, and by the second quarter, MetLife Stadium began echoing with chants of “We want Dart.”

Those chants were directed at rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, the Giants’ first-round pick out of Ole Miss. Dart has only been sprinkled into the offense so far, running a few plays each week. On Sunday, he handed off twice and scrambled once for three yards. His presence, while limited, was still enough to spark excitement from the home crowd. Every time he stepped on the field, the energy shifted, showing just how eager fans are to see a new face leading the huddle.

Daboll, though, kept his cards close to the vest. He praised Dart’s development and expressed confidence in his progress, but he was also blunt about the team’s current state. He admitted that boos from the crowd were understandable, saying, “I’d be booing too, to be honest with you. We’re not good enough right now. We’re not scoring, not finishing. I get it. We gotta be better.”

The frustration with Wilson is layered. Just a week earlier, he looked like his old self, throwing for 450 yards and three touchdowns against Dallas. But that strong performance has been sandwiched between two poor outings in which he failed to top 170 passing yards. The inconsistency has made it hard for fans—and perhaps even the coaching staff—to fully buy in.

Adding to the Giants’ struggles, their kicking game was thrown into chaos when Graham Gano was injured during warmups. Without a reliable option at kicker, the offense’s failures were magnified even more. The end result: New York has now scored in the single digits twice already this season, the only team in the league to do so.

For now, Daboll is keeping his decision about Wilson’s Week 4 status under wraps. The Giants sit at 0-3 and will host the undefeated Chargers next. Whether it’s Wilson under center again or Dart getting his first real shot, one thing is clear: fans are demanding change, and patience is running thin in New York.
