Guerrero Jr. shines as Blue Jays power past Orioles 6-1
The spotlight in Toronto last night was all on Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and for good reason. He managed to reach base five different times, a performance that set the tone for the Blue Jays’ 6-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. It was the kind of night where Guerrero seemed locked in, going three for three with three singles while also drawing a pair of walks, one of those intentional. His batting average now sits at an impressive .305, and the crowd could feel that he was dictating the rhythm of the game.
The turning point came in the sixth inning. Baltimore’s Trevor Rogers had held the Jays in check through five innings, giving up only an unearned run before leaving the game with a sore toe on his pitching foot. He had lowered his ERA to 1.43, but once he was gone, the game shifted. Dietrich Enns came on in relief, and after two quick outs, Isiah Kiner-Falefa managed to reach on an infield single. A throwing error pushed him to second, and that’s when Myles Straw delivered a clutch double down the line to break the tie and put Toronto ahead 2-1.

The momentum only grew from there. In the eighth inning, pinch-hitter Daulton Varsho delivered the dagger—a two-run double that highlighted a three-run burst for the Blue Jays. That rally stretched the lead to 6-1, and with the way Toronto’s pitching staff was dealing, the game felt out of reach for the Orioles.
Chris Bassitt had done his job on the mound for Toronto, allowing just one run and two hits through five innings while striking out six. Braydon Fisher picked up the win by recording two key outs in relief during that sixth inning. And while Baltimore had its moments—Samuel Basallo doubled in the third and scored on a Jackson Holliday single, and Colton Cowser made a highlight diving catch in center field—their offense never got going again.
The Orioles had activated Tyler O’Neill from the injured list before the game, but he looked rusty, finishing 0-for-3 with a walk. Baltimore, who had been on a hot streak in September, was handed just their second loss of the month.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays continued to show why they sit atop the American League. They are now 64-4 when scoring five or more runs, a stat that underscores how dangerous this lineup becomes when it finds its rhythm. Fans are already looking ahead to tonight’s matchup, where Toronto’s Max Scherzer is scheduled to face Baltimore’s Tomoyuki Sagano.
It was a night defined by Guerrero’s patience and power, Straw’s timely hit, and Varsho’s knockout blow. For the Orioles, it was a reminder that against the league’s best, even small mistakes can swing the game in a big way.
