Highlights from the 2025 MTV VMAs
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards turned into one of the biggest nights in music, with the UBS Arena in New York packed full of star power and unforgettable moments. Hosted by LL Cool J, the evening was filled with energy, glamour, and plenty of Moon Person trophies being handed out to artists who shaped the sound of this past year.
Lady Gaga walked into the show with the most nominations, twelve in total, and she definitely didn’t leave empty-handed. She won Artist of the Year , proving once again that her influence in pop music is as strong as ever. Ariana Grande also had a massive night, picking up Video of the Year for her song “Brighter Days Ahead” and taking home the award for Best Pop . The Song of the Year trophy went to ROSÉ and Bruno Mars for “APT.” , a track that clearly resonated with both fans and critics. Bruno Mars also shared another big win with Lady Gaga when their collaboration “Die With A Smile” snagged Best Collaboration . Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter, who had eight nominations, won Best Album for “Short n’ Sweet” and also claimed Best Pop Artist , showing her fast rise in the industry.
Newcomer Alex Warren made his mark by winning Best New Artist , a category that often predicts future superstars. Over in the Latin categories, Ricky Martin received the Latin Icon Award , while Shakira scored Best Latin for her track “Soltera.” Megan Moroney took home Best Country with “Am I Okay?” , solidifying her place as one of the genre’s strongest new voices.
Some of the most emotional moments of the night came from legends being honored. Mariah Carey received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and also claimed Best R&B for “Type Dangerous.” Busta Rhymes was recognized with the Rock the Bells Visionary Award , a tribute to his lasting impact on hip-hop culture.
Other big wins included Tyla, who captured Best Afrobeats with “PUSH 2 START,” and LISA, whose track “Born Again” featuring Doja Cat and RAYE won Best K-Pop. Coldplay also returned to the spotlight by winning Best Rock for “All My Love.”
The night wasn’t just about trophies—it was about celebrating music across genres, generations, and cultures. From fresh newcomers to living icons, the 2025 MTV VMAs reminded everyone why this show has been such an important stage for artists for decades.
