What a night it was for Indian boxing! Liverpool turned into the stage of history as Jaismine Lamboria delivered a performance that will be remembered for years. Competing in the women’s 57kg category at the World Boxing Championships 2025, she went toe-to-toe with Poland’s Julia Szeremeta, who was already an Olympic silver medallist. The odds seemed heavy, the crowd loud in support of the Polish fighter, but Jaismine turned pressure into power. After a shaky opening round, she steadied herself, adjusted her rhythm, and began dictating the fight. Her reach and sharp counterpunches started finding their mark, and with each clean shot, momentum shifted. When the final bell rang, the verdict was declared—a 4-1 split decision in Jaismine’s favor. With that, she became India’s ninth world champion in boxing, adding her name alongside icons like Mary Kom and Nikhat Zareen.

Jaismine’s joy was written all over her face. She admitted afterwards that words could hardly capture her feelings. After the heartbreak of an early exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics, she had poured herself into training—mentally and technically. That hard work finally paid off in golden fashion. Her national anthem played in Liverpool, and in that moment, Indian boxing had scaled a new peak.

But the story didn’t stop there. Nupur, India’s representative in the women’s +80kg division, also had her shot at glory. Her final against Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska was fierce and physical. Despite having a clear height advantage, Nupur found it difficult to keep Kaczmarska at bay. The Pole kept moving inside, delivering body shots and forcing Nupur onto the back foot. Even though the match was extremely close, a decisive uppercut from Kaczmarska in the dying moments tilted the balance. The split decision went against Nupur, who had to settle for silver. Still, it was a massive achievement for her and another proud moment for India.

Earlier in the tournament, the experienced Pooja Rani secured a bronze medal after fighting her way to the semifinals. She faced England’s Emily Asquith and started strong, but the local favorite adapted quickly and outscored her in the later rounds. Pooja’s bronze, combined with Jaismine’s gold and Nupur’s silver, meant India had its best-ever outing at a World Boxing Championships, with three women reaching the finals.

This was more than just a medal tally—it was a declaration that Indian women’s boxing has reached a new level on the global stage. Jaismine’s golden triumph was not just personal redemption but also national pride. Nupur’s silver added depth to the campaign, and Pooja’s bronze underlined the strength of experience. Together, they created a night that Indian sports fans will cherish for a very long time.
