Jack Silvagni leaves Carlton to reunite with dad at St Kilda

Jack Silvagni’s time at Carlton has officially come to an end, and now he’s preparing for a new chapter that’s as much about family as it is about football. After a decade in navy blue and 128 games for the Blues, the 27-year-old has chosen to join St Kilda as an unrestricted free agent. What makes this move even more intriguing is that he’ll be linking up with his father, Stephen Silvagni, who is currently working in list management at the Saints.

Jack’s departure from Carlton was not exactly a surprise. He made it clear during his exit meeting that he would be moving on, despite being a third-generation Silvagni at the club—his grandfather Sergio and father Stephen were both Carlton legends. But times change, and Jack decided that the time was right to explore a new opportunity. Injuries, including a ruptured ACL that wiped out his 2024 season, have interrupted his journey, but he’s still been able to carve out a solid career since being drafted as a father-son pick in 2015.

Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs had both expressed serious interest. Jack even met with Pies coach Craig McRae, weighing up whether to take the leap across to Carlton’s fiercest rival. But in the end, it was the Saints who won his signature. The decision will reunite him with his father, who had his own complicated history with the Blues after being let go from his list management role back in 2019. Now, father and son will get the chance to work together in Moorabbin as St Kilda continues its aggressive recruiting drive.

The Saints’ football boss, David Misson, confirmed that Jack had nominated the club as his preferred destination. As an unrestricted free agent, he won’t face any hurdles once the free-agency period officially opens in October. Until then, the club is keeping its comments measured, noting that the formal process has to be respected.

For Carlton, this marks the end of a family legacy that stretched across three generations. For Jack, though, it represents a fresh start. He’s leaving behind 89 goals and countless memories in navy blue, and he does so with gratitude. In a statement, he thanked the club for the support shown to both him and his family over the past ten years.

St Kilda fans will be eager to see what he can bring once the paperwork is completed. And with other moves in the pipeline—including Carlton ruck Tom De Koning expected to sign a massive eight-year deal with the Saints—Jack won’t be the only big addition to their list. It’s clear the Saints are building with intent, and Jack Silvagni will now be right in the middle of that new direction.

This move feels like more than just a transfer. It’s the continuation of a football story that spans generations, but with a new chapter written in red, white, and black.
