Jamie Lee Curtis Recalls Near Meeting with Princess Diana
Jamie Lee Curtis recently shared a deeply personal memory that touched many of her fans, especially those who still hold Princess Diana close in their hearts. On August 31, 2025, which marked the 28th anniversary of Diana’s tragic passing, Curtis took to Instagram to reflect on a near encounter she once had with the Princess of Wales.
The actress, now 66, explained that back in the late 1990s, while filming Fierce Creatures at Pinewood Studios in England, a royal visit had been planned. Princess Diana, along with her young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, was scheduled to stop by the set. Curtis recalled that excitement filled the air as everyone prepared to welcome Diana.

But in a twist of fate, she ended up missing that moment. As Curtis described it, she had taken a quick break, hopping into a golf cart to head back to her dressing room. Nature had called, and she stepped away for just a short while. It was during that exact window of time that Diana and her sons arrived. By the time Curtis returned to the set, the Princess was already walking away.
Curtis remembered the frantic knock on her door from her driver, trying to alert her that Diana was there. Despite her best efforts to rush back, the chance had slipped away. Later, she decided to write Diana a letter, apologizing for missing the visit and explaining why she hadn’t been there to greet her. To her surprise and delight, she received a kind reply. In the letter, Diana graciously acknowledged Curtis’s note, even admitting that she understood—after all, such moments happen to everyone, including herself. Diana also expressed that she looked forward to meeting Curtis one day.
Tragically, that meeting never happened. Just two months later, in August of 1997, Diana died in the devastating car crash in Paris that shocked the world. Curtis recalled being back in the United States when she heard the news and the profound sadness that came with it.
In her post, Curtis went beyond simply telling the story. She reflected on how Diana had lived—with compassion, openness, and a remarkable ability to connect with people. After Diana’s death, Curtis turned to a book on insight meditation, which helped her process grief and think about mindful living, even in the face of mortality.
