Jujutsu Kaisen Spin-Off "Mimojuro" Announced
Big news just dropped for fans of Jujutsu Kaisen — Gege Akutami, the creator of the original series, is returning with a brand-new spin-off manga titled Mimojuro . What makes this announcement even more exciting is that Akutami won’t be working alone this time. He’s teaming up with Yuji Iwasaki, the illustrator best known for his work on Cipher Academy . Akutami will be handling the story while Iwasaki takes care of the art.
The project was revealed in Weekly Shonen Jump , with confirmation that the spin-off will officially debut on September 8, 2025. It’s designed as a short-term serialization, expected to run for about six months and then be collected into three volumes. The first chapter will be a hefty 54 pages long, complete with color spreads, and the manga will also be featured on the cover of Jump’s issue that week. That’s a big statement about how much faith the magazine has in this collaboration.

Now, the biggest question on everyone’s mind is: what exactly will Mimojuro be about? Details are still under wraps, but Akutami has clarified that this won’t be a direct continuation of the Jujutsu Kaisen
The name itself, Mimojuro , has already sparked fan theories. In Japanese naming conventions, “-juro” often refers to the “tenth son,” but it could also be symbolic or a fusion word hinting at the series’ themes. Without concrete details, speculation is running wild. Some fans are hoping for familiar faces, maybe characters connected to Gojo, Yuta, or Sukuna, while others think Akutami might use this chance to introduce an entirely fresh cast.
It’s worth remembering that some of Akutami’s strongest work has come in shorter formats. Before Jujutsu Kaisen exploded into a global hit, his one-shot Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical School eventually became JJK Volume 0 — a fan favorite that even inspired its own film. That track record has fans confident that a compact series like Mimojuro could deliver a sharp, impactful story without dragging on.
There’s also an emotional angle to this announcement. Toward the end of Jujutsu Kaisen’s serialization, Akutami faced intense deadlines and health struggles, which sometimes affected the pacing of the final arcs. With this new project being short-term and collaborative, many readers feel reassured that the workload will be lighter and the storytelling more focused.
At the end of the day, the hype surrounding Mimojuro isn’t just about seeing the JJK world again — it’s about seeing what Akutami can create when given room to experiment. Whether it ties directly into the sorcerer battles we know and love, or whether it veers into unexpected territory, fans are ready to dive in. And with its debut just around the corner, September 8 is already shaping up to be a huge date for the manga community.
