Mohamed Salah Secures Fourth Place in 2025 Ballon d'Or
Mohamed Salah has once again etched his name into football’s elite conversation, this time by finishing fourth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings. The Egyptian forward, who has become synonymous with Liverpool’s recent dominance, was announced among the very best in world football, even though he did not attend the ceremony in Paris.
Now, to put this into perspective, the Ballon d’Or is still seen as the most prestigious individual honor in the game. It is voted on by journalists, national team coaches, and captains from around the world, with criteria that focus on individual brilliance, impact on the team’s success, and fair play. During the 2024–25 season, Salah delivered one of the finest individual performances English football has witnessed. He ended the Premier League campaign as both the top scorer with 29 goals and the leading playmaker with 18 assists. Beyond that, across all competitions, he reached 34 goals and provided 23 assists — staggering numbers for any player, let alone a winger in his thirties. These achievements earned him several top domestic honors: Premier League Player of the Season, the FWA Footballer of the Year, and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
His influence went far beyond statistics. Salah was pivotal in helping new Liverpool manager Arne Slot secure the club’s 20th league title, clinched with four games to spare. It was a season defined by energy, determination, and Salah’s unrelenting consistency at the highest level. This fourth-place finish also marked his highest-ever Ballon d’Or ranking after previously finishing fifth in 2019 and 2022.
Despite Salah’s heroics, the golden trophy this year went to Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele. Liverpool’s other nominees also received recognition. Alexis Mac Allister finished 22nd, Virgil van Dijk was 28th, and Florian Wirtz placed 29th. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alisson Becker narrowly missed out on the Yachine Trophy, awarded to the world’s best goalkeeper, finishing runner-up to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
For Salah, this Ballon d’Or result further cements his legacy. The last Liverpool player to win the award was Michael Owen back in 2001, and while Salah’s wait goes on, his consistent excellence ensures he remains one of the defining players of his era.
