NFL Week 2 Sunday Recap: Comebacks, Blowouts, and OT Thrillers

Sunday’s slate of Week 2 NFL games was packed with drama, comebacks, and a few lopsided blowouts. Let’s break it down as if we’re just chatting through what went down.

The Ravens came out with something to prove after last week’s collapse, and boy, did they deliver. Baltimore put 41 points on the board against the Browns, not just from offense, but with defense and special teams doing their part. Lamar Jackson tossed four touchdown passes, and DeAndre Hopkins and Zay Flowers were on the receiving end of some highlight-worthy plays. Cleveland, meanwhile, looked stuck in the mud. Joe Flacco was pressured all day, turnovers piled up, and the Browns’ offense never really had a shot. Even when rookie Dillon Gabriel gave them a late spark in garbage time, it was too little, too late. The Ravens didn’t even rack up big yardage overall, but they won in all three phases. That’s the kind of team that feels dangerous as the season goes on.

Over in Cincinnati, the Bengals had to dig deep after losing Joe Burrow to injury. Jake Browning stepped in, and though he threw three picks, he shook it off when it mattered most. With the game on the line, he led a gritty 92-yard drive capped off by a sneak for the winning score over Jacksonville. Ja’Marr Chase was huge, racking up 158 yards on 14 catches, proving why he’s one of the league’s top-paid receivers. The Jaguars, on the other hand, looked like they had it in the bag early, but some untimely drops and penalties turned a sure win into a heartbreaking loss.

The Cowboys and Giants gave us the wildest rollercoaster of the day. It was an offensive explosion, and it ended in overtime with Dallas sneaking out a 40-37 win. Dak Prescott threw for over 360 yards, CeeDee Lamb and his supporting cast kept the chains moving, and Javonte Williams ripped off a big touchdown run. But the story was Russell Wilson, who looked like vintage Russ for most of the game, throwing for 450 yards and three deep-ball scores. He had the Giants in position to steal it, but one overtime interception undid all of it, setting up Dallas to close the door. The game was thrilling, but with 26 total penalties, both teams left plenty to clean up.

Then there was Detroit. The Lions answered their critics after a rough opener by demolishing the Bears 52-21. Jared Goff was nearly flawless, tossing five touchdowns and hooking up with Amon-Ra St. Brown for three of them. The defense forced turnovers, Brian Branch was everywhere, and the crowd in Detroit finally got to exhale with the kind of statement win fans had been waiting for. For Chicago, rookie Caleb Williams showed flashes but was overwhelmed. Two weeks in, the optimism around the Bears already feels like it’s fading fast.

And we can’t forget New England pulling out a close one over Miami. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye was sharp, spreading the ball around, and Antonio Gibson’s 90-yard kickoff return swung momentum late. Tua and the Dolphins looked dangerous for much of the game, but one late interception and poor protection in crunch time cost them dearly.

Week 2 gave us everything: big plays, heartbreak, redemption, and even a few early season reality checks. If this is a sign of what’s coming, buckle up—2025’s shaping up to be a wild ride.
