Ninja Opens Up About His Battle with Skin Cancer

Hey everyone, have you heard about Ninja’s recent journey with skin cancer? Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, the world-famous streamer known for Fortnite and Marvel Rivals, has recently shared his personal experience battling melanoma—not once, but twice, within just a couple of months. It’s a story that’s both eye-opening and inspiring, and it really shows how even young, healthy people can be affected by something like this.

It all started in early 2024 when Ninja, who was 33 at the time, decided to get a routine skin check before a holiday to the Bahamas. His wife had suggested it, especially since they had recently moved to Florida and were getting more sun exposure than before. During the check, doctors noticed an unusual mole on the bottom of his foot. Initially, it didn’t seem urgent, but because of some unease about the mole, they decided to monitor it closely. A couple of weeks later, a biopsy was done, and the results were shocking—early-stage melanoma. The mole and a nearby one were promptly removed, and thankfully, he was cancer-free afterward.

But the scare didn’t end there. Just two months later, Ninja spotted another mole on his thigh that didn’t look right. Even though he had been careful with sun protection, he trusted his instincts and had it checked. Once again, it turned out to be melanoma, and it was removed successfully. While both procedures left him cancer-free, Ninja revealed that these experiences have left him feeling like he’s “playing defense” for the rest of his life, constantly keeping an eye on his skin.

In an interview, Ninja talked about the moment he realized the seriousness of it all. Sitting on the couch during recovery, unable to walk for a few days, he had a vulnerable moment where he thought, “Life is short, anything can happen.” He reflected on how he had always considered himself healthy—exercising, eating well, staying fit—and yet, cancer had caught him by surprise. The experience, he says, was “eye-opening” and made him appreciate the importance of early detection.

Now, Ninja is using his platform to raise awareness about skin cancer. He’s teamed up with La Roche-Posay for a special 12-hour stream on Twitch as part of Gaming for Cause, aiming to raise $250,000 and encourage people to get checked regularly. During the stream, he’ll play Fortnite and Marvel Rivals, host collaborations, giveaways, and even involve medical professionals to educate his audience. His goal is not just fundraising but also spreading an important message about prevention and early detection, especially for younger people who might think cancer is something that only affects older adults.

Through sharing his story, Ninja hopes to empower others to take skin checks seriously and to remind everyone that catching something early can truly save lives. His journey is a powerful reminder that even in the world of gaming and entertainment, health must always come first—and that vigilance, awareness, and action can make all the difference.
