Prince Harry and Meghan mocked in Spitting Image spin-off

The return of Spitting Image has once again thrown Prince Harry and Meghan Markle into the spotlight, though not in the most flattering way. The satirical puppet show, which became a cultural staple in the 1980s and ’90s, has been revived in a new online spin-off called The Rest is Bullsh t*. And this time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are front and center, with latex puppets that highlight Harry’s thinning hair and oversized ears, while Meghan is depicted with exaggerated features and props poking fun at her Netflix lifestyle series.

The show, which dropped on YouTube, hasn’t held back from skewering big names across politics, royalty, and celebrity culture. A balding Harry puppet is seen bragging about making “a sh*t-ton of money” through podcasting, while Meghan’s puppet comes across as a parody of her carefully curated brand. The pair are no strangers to parody — their likenesses have previously been lampooned on South Park in 2023 — but this latest satire adds another sharp twist to their public image.

The royal couple isn’t the only target, of course. US President Donald Trump appears in a baby’s bib offering King Charles a burger, a bizarre visual gag that plays off his larger-than-life persona. The satire doesn’t stop there. Other world figures and celebrities given the latex treatment include Vice President JD Vance in dungarees, Kim Jong Un puffing on a cigarette, Sir Keir Starmer in an unflattering caricature, and even pop icons like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande, both rendered with exaggerated features for comic effect.

Writers Al Murray and Matt Forde have explained why the show has been shifted to YouTube rather than television. In their view, the platform provides direct access to audiences without the risk of network interference, especially at a time when debates around free speech are sparking in the US. Murray pointed out that the current climate actually makes satire more relevant than ever. Forde added that Trump, in particular, would likely despise his puppet version, predicting that the portrayal would irritate him to no end.

The timing of the spin-off couldn’t be more pointed. Only days earlier, Donald Trump had delivered a speech at a state banquet praising King Charles and Prince William while appearing to leave Harry out of the accolades. Many saw that as a veiled jab at the Duke of Sussex, who has stepped back from royal duties. Against that backdrop, Harry’s puppet being mocked for cashing in on media opportunities feels especially biting.

While Meghan and Harry have enjoyed some brighter moments this year — with Meghan launching her show With Love, Meghan and Harry reconnecting briefly with King Charles — the return of Spitting Image proves that their public image remains divisive. Satire, after all, thrives on controversy, and the Sussexes continue to provide plenty of material for comedians and caricaturists alike.

In the end, The Rest is Bullsh t* delivers exactly what fans of Spitting Image expect: sharp, ridiculous, and often uncomfortable comedy that spares no one, whether it’s royals, presidents, or pop stars. And judging by this latest round, Harry and Meghan will have to get used to seeing themselves at the sharp end of the latex puppet joke.
