Remembering Michael "BUFF" G. Tadych Jr., A Life Lived Boldly
Today, I want to share the story of a remarkable man, Michael “BUFF” G. Tadych Jr., who passed away on September 11, 2025, at the age of 63. His journey was marked by courage, humor, and an unwavering love for family and friends. For two years, Buff battled cancer with a resilience that was truly his own, never losing the spark that defined him.
Born on January 23, 1962, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Buff was the son of Michael and Donna Tadych. His upbringing was deeply rooted in faith, and he attended Presentation School in North Fond du Lac. Yet, while faith guided him, it was the open air and hands-on work that seemed to give him real peace. His garage, the woods, and the outdoors were sanctuaries where Buff’s true self shone.
A mechanic by trade, Buff was known for his ability to fix nearly anything with an engine. And if it didn’t cooperate right away, well, he would grumble until it did. He dedicated many years to J & K Summerfield Alignment, where his talents left both cars and coworkers in better shape, often accompanied by his colorful humor.

Buff’s passions were many. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his beloved Dawn, who was his constant companion. Gardening was another joy — he had a legendary green thumb, growing vegetables and flowers with care, carrying on the proud Tadych tradition. Beyond that, motorcycles, sports, and concerts brought him delight, but most of all, he cherished honest conversation and sharing a laugh.
Despite a gruff exterior, Buff’s loyalty, wit, and warmth touched everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a loving family: Dawn Manthe, his father Michael Tadych, stepchild Shawn Manthe, siblings Kelly, Suzanne, Shely, Debora, Melissa, Mary Kate, and John, as well as nieces, nephews, relatives, and countless friends who adored him for exactly who he was. He has now been reunited with his mother Donna, brothers Kurt and Brian, and grandparents, no doubt bringing his energy and humor to the afterlife.
Visitation will be held at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home in Fond du Lac on September 19th and 20th, followed by a funeral service and burial at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Buff lived on his own terms — stubborn, sweet, gruff, and giving — leaving a legacy that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
In celebrating his life, we remember not just the man he was, but the spirit he carried. Michael “BUFF” G. Tadych Jr. reminds us that a life lived fully, with laughter, love, and tenacity, leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those we leave behind.
