Stoke-on-Trent Baker Describes GBBO Experience as "Life-Changing"
If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into the iconic Great British Bake Off tent, Aaron Mountford-Myles from Sneyd Green, Stoke-on-Trent, has made that dream a reality—and he calls it the best thing he’s ever done. Aaron, an architect by profession, had first applied to the show eight years ago, only to miss out. Another attempt in 2019 was thwarted by a broken hand, but this year, perseverance paid off. Now, as one of the 12 bakers competing in the latest series, he’s ready to put his baking skills to the ultimate test in front of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
Describing his time in the tent, Aaron shared that the experience was "crazy" and that time seemed to move differently when the cameras were rolling and the ovens were on. The nerves, he said, really kicked in as the clock ticked down during challenges, and they surged again while waiting for the judges’ verdicts. For Aaron, baking has always been more than just a hobby—it’s been a way to explore flavors and perfect recipes until they’re exactly right. “I love food,” he admitted, “and I hate the thought of trying something once and not getting it perfect, so I’ll practice until I do.”

Aaron isn’t the only contestant with a heartfelt story. Toby Littlewood from Warwick described the first glimpse of the tent as "really daunting." Inspired by baking alongside his nan and by years of experimenting in his own kitchen, Toby decided to apply for the show around his 30th birthday. He wanted something exciting and out of the ordinary, and Bake Off seemed like the perfect challenge.
Other bakers bring equally unique backgrounds and styles. Jasmine, a 23-year-old medical student from London, applied on a whim and was astounded when she got through. She grew up baking in the Scottish Highlands with her family and has a passion for using fresh, seasonal ingredients to create classic flavor combinations. Meanwhile, Pui Man, a 51-year-old bridal designer from Essex, brings meticulous attention to detail, honed through years of designing wedding dresses, to her bakes. Nataliia, whose husband surprised her by signing her up, carries the baking traditions of her Ukrainian grandmother into every dish.
This year’s series will feature the much-loved "cake week," with challenges including Swiss rolls and fondant fancies, giving viewers a delicious array of treats to anticipate. The bakers’ diverse experiences, creative flair, and sheer dedication are already setting high expectations. Aaron summed it up perfectly when he said being on the show is “the most fun you’ve probably ever had,” highlighting that, for these bakers, it’s about more than winning—it’s about passion, growth, and the joy of baking.
