Strictly Come Dancing 2025 shines with new stars and surprises

Strictly Come Dancing is back, and the countdown to sparkle season has officially begun. The first-look trailer for the 2025 series has now been released, giving fans a taste of what’s to come when the show returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday, September 20th. The clip, just 30 seconds long, is already setting the tone for the glitter-filled months ahead.

In the teaser, Strictly’s professional dancers and head judge Shirley Ballas are seen soaking up the last rays of summer at a glitzy poolside party. The party doesn’t stay calm for long though — it bursts into a dazzling group routine featuring fellow judges Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse. Making a splash in this sequence are the brand-new professional dancers, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon, whose arrival marks an exciting new chapter for the Strictly family. This little preview is just a hint of the full-length performance set to open the big Launch Show.

That launch episode, airing September 20th, promises plenty of sparkle and surprises. Viewers will see this year’s 15 celebrity contestants paired with their professional dancers for the very first time. Each pairing reveal has been filmed in its own creative, surprise-filled sequence — a Strictly tradition that always gets people talking. The night won’t just stop there. All of the celebrities will join their pros in a huge group number to officially kick off the competition.

Fans will also enjoy a special routine from last year’s champions, Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell, as well as an exclusive live performance from Jessie J. Hosting duties, as always, fall to the iconic duo Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who will guide us through every glittering twist and turn.

The new cast of 15 contestants has already been revealed, and they’re a mix of familiar faces and surprising additions. Among them are Love Island winner Dani Dyer, Doctor Who and ER star Alex Kingston, rugby captain Chris Robshaw, drag queen performer La Voix, and football legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Other names include model and actress Ellie Goldstein, who makes history as the first contestant with Down’s Syndrome, plus EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal, Olympian Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, broadcaster Ross King, Neighbours legend Stefan Dennis, and I’m A Celebrity winner Vicky Pattison. Rounding out the lineup are YouTuber George Clarke, Emmerdale actor Lewis Cope, Apprentice star Thomas Skinner, and former footballer Karen Carney.

Over the following 12 weeks, these celebrities will be taking on everything from the tango and salsa to the jive and quickstep. Each week, their performances will be scored by the judges before the public get their say, all leading up to one pair being crowned champions and lifting the coveted Glitterball Trophy.

There’s already been some drama before the series even kicks off — Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn had to pull out due to medical reasons and was replaced by Lewis Cope. And, as ever, the “Strictly super spoiler” has been at work online, claiming to reveal pairings before they officially air. But while leaks may slip through, the BBC is keeping the best surprises tightly under wraps until the big night.

With glamour, glitz, and a whole new batch of stars ready to step onto the dancefloor, Strictly Come Dancing 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting series yet.
