Tour of Britain 2025: Suffolk Starts, Welsh Glory
The Tour of Britain Men 2025 is set to be one of the most exciting editions yet, running from the 2nd to the 7th of September. Unlike last year’s north-to-south journey, this year the race stretches across England and Wales from east to west, beginning in the quiet beauty of Suffolk and ending in the heart of Cardiff.
For the first time since 2012, Suffolk will host the opening stage, and not just one – but two full days of racing. Riders will roll out from Woodbridge on day one, winding through Aldeburgh, Leiston, Framlingham, and Halesworth before finishing on the seafront at Southwold. The flat terrain is expected to set the scene for a fast bunch sprint. On day two, Stowmarket takes the spotlight. Riders will start and finish in the town, looping through Sudbury, Lavenham, and Hadleigh. With a few late climbs, the stage could be shaped by aggressive attacks rather than a simple sprint, offering early drama for fans.

Two climbs of Hillfoot Hill add spice to an otherwise flat profile, making it perfect for breakaway attempts. Then, on stage four, the race’s longest day unfolds in Warwickshire. Riders will face a series of climbs before looping around Burton Dassett Hills Country Park, where three sharp circuits should start to separate the overall contenders from the sprinters.
By stage five, the peloton will be deep in South Wales, facing the infamous climb of The Tumble. This 5km ascent with brutal gradients will test the legs of even the strongest climbers. It’s here that the race for the overall title could truly ignite, especially with so many world-class names in the mix – from Remco Evenepoel, riding one of his last races with Soudal Quick-Step, to home favorite Geraint Thomas.
And then comes the emotional finale. Stage six is more than just a bike race – it’s a tribute. Starting in Newport at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome and finishing in Cardiff, this stage will mark the final day of Thomas’s glittering professional career. Along the way, riders will climb Caerphilly Mountain, ensuring the last day is anything but easy. The peloton will then sweep past the Maindy Velodrome, where Thomas began his journey as a youngster, before racing toward the finish line near Cardiff Castle.
In total, 114 riders from 20 nations will compete across six stages, offering everything from flat sprints to punishing climbs. Fans in Suffolk, the Midlands, and Wales will be treated to free-to-watch world-class racing, while viewers across the UK can catch it live on ITV. With legends bowing out and young riders stepping up, the 2025 Tour of Britain promises both celebration and fierce competition – a week where history will be written on British roads.
