UAE Defeat Oman by 42 Runs in Asia Cup 2025 T20 Clash
The Asia Cup 2025 T20 match between the United Arab Emirates and Oman turned into an entertaining contest in Abu Dhabi, but the UAE ended up as the clear winners, sealing the game by 42 runs. The result highlighted the difference in depth and experience between the two associate nations.
The game started with Oman captain Jatinder Singh winning the toss and opting to bowl first under the evening heat. It was a surprising decision, given Oman's inexperience with the bat, but it set the stage for the UAE’s strong top-order performance. Openers Alishan Sharafu and skipper Muhammad Waseem batted sensibly at the start and then accelerated beautifully. Sharafu smashed a fluent 51 off 38 balls, while Waseem anchored the innings with a responsible knock of 69 from 54 balls. Their partnership laid the foundation, and even though UAE lost a couple of quick wickets in the middle overs, cameos from the lower order ensured they reached 172 for 5 in their 20 overs. That total was always going to be challenging in Abu Dhabi conditions.

For Oman, the chase was off balance right from the first over. UAE pacer Junaid Siddique struck early and never let the opposition settle. He bowled with fire and accuracy, eventually claiming four wickets to break Oman's batting backbone. Skipper Jatinder Singh tried to inject some hope with a few attractive shots, while Aryan Bisht and Vinayak Shukla attempted to stitch a partnership. However, the lack of application from the top order meant the required run rate kept climbing, and soft dismissals piled pressure on the middle and lower order. Oman was bowled out for just 130 in 18.4 overs.
The contrast between the two teams was evident. The UAE showed greater composure and professionalism in both batting and bowling. Their fielding was sharp, and their plans were executed well, while Oman looked uncertain with their approach. At no point during the chase did Oman appear in control. Every time a partnership looked like developing, wickets fell in clusters, and momentum slipped away.
For the UAE, the win was a much-needed boost after their heavy defeat against India in their opening game. It was also a reminder that despite being an associate nation, they have players capable of delivering on the big stage. Muhammad Waseem crossing 3,000 career T20I runs during the match added another milestone for their cricketing journey.
On the other hand, Oman’s struggles were exposed. Their squad has lost several experienced names since the last T20 World Cup, and the lack of batting depth was on full display. While they will take some lessons from this game, it was clear they are still far from being able to consistently challenge teams like the UAE.
In the end, it was a professional and commanding performance by the UAE, who won by 42 runs and walked away with pride. Oman, meanwhile, will return to the drawing board to rebuild and find consistency in their future outings.
