Vince Neil Opens Up About Stroke and Comeback Journey
When fans think of Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil, they imagine the high-energy frontman who has spent decades rocking stadiums. But just after Christmas last year, his world changed in an instant. Neil revealed that he suffered a stroke while he was asleep, and when he woke up, his body wouldn’t cooperate. His left side had gone completely out, and even getting to the bathroom was impossible.
Neil admitted that he went to bed feeling fine that night, but by morning, nothing worked the way it should. He described it simply but powerfully: “I had a stroke.” For someone whose life and career depend on physical stamina and stage presence, it was a shocking turn. Doctors even warned him that he might never be able to perform again. But Neil wasn’t ready to accept that fate. He was determined to prove them wrong.
The stroke forced Mötley Crüe to delay their Las Vegas residency originally scheduled for March and April. The band announced that Neil needed a “required medical procedure,” but behind that statement was a long road of physical therapy. At first, Neil had to be carried just to move around. From there, he graduated to a wheelchair, then a walker, then a cane. Months of effort slowly paid off, and today he proudly says he no longer needs any assistance.
Neil credits not only doctors and therapists but also his own relentless willpower. A Nashville football coach worked with him on agility drills, even teaching him how to run again. The process was grueling, but it brought results. Now, Neil says he’s about “90 to 95 percent” recovered, and he’s ready to get back on stage with the same energy fans expect. Luckily, his voice was never affected, so while his body had to relearn the basics, his singing stayed strong.

His recovery came in the middle of other personal challenges. Just a month earlier, a Learjet owned by Neil was involved in a tragic crash in Arizona. Neil wasn’t on board, but his longtime girlfriend Rain Hannah was, and she suffered serious injuries. Despite broken ribs and lingering pain, she has since returned to riding horses on their Tennessee ranch.
Now, with Mötley Crüe’s upcoming Dolby Live residency in Las Vegas, Neil is viewing these shows as some of the most important of his career. The band even released a greatest-hits collection to mark the moment, featuring classics like Kickstart My Heart , Dr. Feelgood , and Girls, Girls, Girls . Neil says the new setlist is extensive and filled with fan favorites, promising it will showcase the full spirit of the band.
After months of doubt and hard work, Neil is proving his resilience. His message is clear: despite setbacks, he’s not done rocking, and the stage is still where he belongs.
