Xabi Alonso Prepares Madrid for Tough Levante Challenge
Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has been setting the tone ahead of his team’s upcoming clash against Levante at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia. The match, scheduled for Tuesday night, is being seen as another test for Los Blancos in what has been described by Alonso as a season of building strong foundations.
Speaking to the press, Alonso stressed that away games are never easy, and Levante have already shown their ability to compete with some of Spain’s top sides. Their recent victory over Girona, a strong display against Betis, and their opening performance that troubled Barcelona were highlighted as proof of their growth under manager Calero. According to Alonso, the match will demand not only quality and tempo, but also full concentration and relentless work for the entire ninety minutes.
Alonso admitted that Real Madrid are still in the process of forming their identity this season. He described it as a stage of laying “the pillars and the foundation.” Progress has been noticed, but consistency remains the target. Only six league matches have been played so far, and Alonso insisted that hunger and ambition must drive the team forward if they are to collect the points required for a strong campaign.

When asked about the Ballon d’Or, Alonso kept his focus firmly on the match, saying that while he follows football closely, his attention is on Levante and not the award ceremony. He also brushed off concerns about players showing frustration when substituted, noting that such reactions are normal, as he had once been a player himself. His priority, he added, is maintaining open dialogue with the squad.
There was also praise for Carreras, whose competitive spirit and technical ability have impressed Alonso since breaking into the side. The coach remarked that Carreras’ rapid adaptation has been “remarkable,” even though the team already has depth in his position with Alaba, Fran, and Mendy.
On other individuals, Alonso spoke warmly about VinÃcius Jr., who he believes must simply remain focused as the season is still young. He also discussed the potential starting roles for Bellingham and Camavinga, hinting that anyone in the squad could feature against Levante. He expressed particular excitement about working with Camavinga, emphasizing the midfielder’s dynamism and ability to impact games from deeper positions.
When asked about his preferred attacking trio, Alonso avoided choosing favorites, instead stressing that Madrid need every option available. Improvement in the final third remains a goal, and while some forwards could have scored more, he underlined that eagerness and effort are already present.
In closing, Alonso insisted that no single formula exists for success. The key, he said, is collective play and the determination to improve step by step. With Levante’s pressing style and attacking threats, Real Madrid are preparing for a demanding match where their evolving foundation will again be put to the test.
