Alabama Stages Dramatic Comeback to Defeat South Carolina 29-22
What a wild night it turned out to be in Columbia! Alabama football fans witnessed one of those heart-pounding, edge-of-the-seat finishes that reminded everyone why college football Saturdays feel almost cinematic. The Crimson Tide, led by head coach Kalen DeBoer, managed to claw their way back from an eight-point deficit late in the game to pull off a 29-22 victory over South Carolina — a game that seemed at one point to be slipping right through their fingers.
To start things off, Alabama actually struggled quite a bit. The Gamecocks came out strong, taking an early 3-0 lead and setting the tone with sharp defensive pressure. Alabama’s offense was completely out of rhythm during the first quarter. Quarterback Ty Simpson was sacked early, and the team went three-and-out twice in their opening drives. But Alabama’s defense answered back almost immediately. DaShawn Jones grabbed an interception and ran it back 18 yards for a touchdown — giving the Crimson Tide their first points of the night and a much-needed spark.

Still, the first half was rocky. Simpson fumbled midway through the second quarter, giving South Carolina another shot. The Gamecocks dominated time of possession, almost tripling Alabama’s control of the ball. Yet, just before halftime, things started to shift. DeBoer took a gamble on fourth down instead of settling for a field goal, and it paid off with a short touchdown pass from Simpson to Josh Cuevas, giving Alabama a 14-6 lead heading into the break.
The second half, however, was chaos. South Carolina came out swinging — LaNorris Sellers connected on a huge 54-yard touchdown pass, cutting into Alabama’s lead and then later running one in himself to put the Gamecocks up 22-14. The Crimson Tide offense looked completely stuck for much of the third quarter, with dropped passes and missed throws. Fans could feel the tension rising as time ticked away.
Then came the turnaround. With just over two minutes left, Alabama pulled off a perfectly executed trick play to tie the game at 22-all after a crucial touchdown. Moments later, Deontae Lawson forced a fumble, setting up the Crimson Tide in prime field position. And with less than a minute to play, Simpson found Germie Bernard for a 25-yard touchdown strike that sealed the comeback.
When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 29-22 — Alabama. A collective sigh of relief spread across Tide Nation. It wasn’t their prettiest win, but it was a gutsy one — and it kept their SEC and College Football Playoff hopes alive.
This victory was more than just another number in the win column. It showed resilience, adaptability, and the kind of “refuse to lose” attitude that defines championship-caliber teams. And if Saturday night was any indication, Alabama under Kalen DeBoer may still be finding its rhythm — but it’s finding ways to win when it matters most.
