Anthony Davis Injury Sends Shockwaves Through Mavericks Camp
It’s not the kind of update Mavericks fans were hoping to hear. Anthony Davis, who has already had a long history of injuries throughout his career, found himself back in the spotlight on Wednesday night — and unfortunately, it wasn’t for his play on the court.
During the Mavericks’ matchup against the Indiana Pacers, Davis appeared to tweak something early in the game. After scoring, he was seen moving gingerly and soon signaled to the bench that something wasn’t right. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that Davis crouched down on the sideline during a timeout and was later escorted to the locker room for what the team called “further evaluation.” Moments later, the Mavericks officially listed him as questionable to return due to “left lower leg soreness.”

That “questionable” tag didn’t last long — before the second quarter ended, Davis was ruled out entirely. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd later confirmed that Davis had been dealing with “bilateral Achilles tendinopathy” and that the team decided to sit him for precautionary reasons, even though he had initially wanted to come back into the game.
It’s a worrying development, especially considering the Mavericks’ current situation. Kyrie Irving is already sidelined with a knee injury and isn’t expected to return until sometime in 2026. Davis, 32, was meant to be the team’s steadying veteran presence after being acquired in that blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers earlier this year. Ironically, Doncic is now injured for Los Angeles, and Davis — the main piece coming to Dallas — is facing his own health concerns.
Before this setback, Davis had been in strong form, averaging 25 points, nearly 12 rebounds, and almost 3 assists through his first four games with the Mavericks. He was supposed to help usher in what’s being called the “Cooper Flagg Era” in Dallas — a balance between youthful energy and experienced leadership. But now, that plan may have to be adjusted if Davis is forced to miss more time.
For the Mavericks, this isn’t just about losing points and rebounds. It’s about momentum. A team that has been trying to rebuild its identity post-Doncic can’t afford to have its stars in and out of the lineup. And while Jason Kidd’s squad managed to edge out a 107–105 win against the Pacers, the locker room mood afterward was far from celebratory.
Fans are now left hoping that the “left lower leg soreness” turns out to be minor. But with Davis’s injury history, optimism is cautious. For a player who’s battled through everything from back spasms to ankle issues, this latest setback feels all too familiar. And for the Mavericks, who envisioned a trio of Davis, Irving, and Flagg leading them forward, the dream may already be facing its first big test.
