Canadiens Eye Strong Finish as Road Trip Wraps Up in Seattle
The Montreal Canadiens are wrapping up their Western Conference road trip tonight with a big clash against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena — and there’s plenty of buzz around this one. It’s been an eventful trip for the Habs, and they’ll want to head home with momentum after what’s already been an impressive start to their season.
Montreal comes into the game with a 7-3-0 record, one of their best starts in recent memory outside of the shortened COVID season. Despite injuries to key players like Kaiden Guhle, Kirby Dach, and Patrik Laine, the team has managed to stay sharp — thanks largely to a mix of grit, balanced offense, and breakout performances from their young stars.
Saturday night’s thriller in Vancouver was another example of how this team refuses to back down. The Canadiens edged out the Canucks 4–3, marking their seventh one-goal game already this year. Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovsky, Mike Matheson, and rookie sensation Ivan Demidov were all on the scoresheet. And in goal, Jakub Dobeš was once again stellar — remaining undefeated at 5-0-0 and making history as the first rookie goalie ever to start back-to-back seasons with five straight wins.

Head coach Martin St-Louis hasn’t revealed whether Dobeš or Samuel Montembeault will start tonight, but with Dobeš riding that hot streak, it’s hard to imagine anyone else getting the nod. As St-Louis himself put it, hockey is a results business — and right now, the rookie has earned his ice time.
Meanwhile, the Kraken are feeling confident, too. They’re 5-2-2 and undefeated at home this season. Saturday’s 3–2 win over Edmonton featured a vintage performance from veteran Jordan Eberle, who scored twice and reached 70 career goals in a Kraken uniform — a milestone achieved with three different NHL teams. Rookie Berkly Catton also picked up his first home point, showing flashes of why Seattle was so high on him in the 2024 draft.
The last time these two teams met, it was a wild back-and-forth battle at the Bell Centre, where Cole Caufield buried the overtime winner to give Montreal a 5–4 victory. That loss still stings for Seattle, who will be looking for revenge tonight in front of their home crowd.
Statistically, the Canadiens have the edge in scoring — averaging 3.6 goals per game compared to Seattle’s 2.78 — and their power play has been clicking at over 23%. But the Kraken’s defense and goaltending at home have been airtight so far, allowing no more than two goals in any game at Climate Pledge Arena this season.
So, as the puck drops at 10:30 p.m. Eastern, expect a tight, high-intensity contest. The Canadiens are chasing their third win of the road trip — and if they can pull it off, they’ll return to Montreal not just satisfied, but sending a clear message that this year’s Habs are for real.
