Cillian Murphy’s Peaky Blinders Ride Continues With New Seasons Ahead
It looked for a while like Peaky Blinders had reached its grand finale — with creator Steven Knight preparing to wrap up Tommy Shelby’s saga through a feature film titled The Immortal Man . But in a surprising and exciting twist, Knight has confirmed that not one, but two new seasons of the hit gangster drama are officially on the way.
For fans who’ve followed Cillian Murphy’s chillingly brilliant performance as Tommy Shelby since the show first aired in 2013, this news feels like an unexpected bonus. Over six intense seasons, Peaky Blinders told the story of the Shelby family’s rise from the backstreets of post–World War I Birmingham to the top of Britain’s criminal underworld. The series blended power, politics, and pain in a way that captured audiences worldwide.

Now, with The Immortal Man set to act as a bridge between the old and the new, the Peaky Blinders world is about to expand again. The upcoming film will pick up after the emotional season six finale — when Tommy rode off into the sunset after discovering he wasn’t dying from a brain tumor. Knight has described the film as “explosive,” and while its release date hasn’t yet been locked in, it’s expected sometime in early 2026.
After the movie, Peaky Blinders will jump forward in time. Season seven will reportedly begin in 1953 , a post–World War II Birmingham rebuilding itself from bomb damage. Knight describes this era as a brutal race for power — a contest to control Birmingham’s massive reconstruction projects. The Shelby legacy, as always, will be right at the center of it all, as a new generation steps up to carry the family name into a new era of danger and opportunity.
As for Cillian Murphy, he’s confirmed to stay involved — this time as an executive producer . Whether Tommy Shelby himself will return on screen hasn’t been revealed yet, but given the story’s timeline, fans are hopeful. Murphy once said, “Tommy will never be satisfied. He will never rest,” and that lingering unrest might just pull him back into the story.
The new Peaky Blinders chapters will introduce fresh faces while carrying forward characters like Duke Shelby and Lady Diana Mitford from season six. Actor additions like Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Rebecca Ferguson — appearing first in The Immortal Man — might also help shape this new chapter.
Steven Knight has promised “a hell of a ride,” once again rooted in Birmingham’s gritty history. Filming will take place at Knight’s own Digbeth Loc. Studios, though production has yet to begin. And with both season seven and eight already confirmed, it’s clear that the Peaky Blinders story is far from over.
So, while Tommy Shelby may have tried to ride off into the sunset, it seems the world he built — and the chaos he left behind — will continue to rise from the ashes once more.
