Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 Finally Moving Forward Under DC Studios
After years of speculation, it seems fans of Keanu Reeves’ Constantine finally have something solid to look forward to. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has confirmed that progress on Constantine 2 is happening — a long-awaited development for those who have been holding onto hope since the 2005 cult classic.

Now, it’s not like this sequel has had a smooth path. The movie’s journey has been stalled several times due to leadership changes at Warner Bros. and DC. But with the new regime now in place, things are finally starting to move again. Gunn revealed that while he hasn’t read a fresh draft of the script yet, discussions are very much alive. That’s huge, because it means the studio is actively considering how to bring John Constantine back into the picture — possibly under the Elseworlds banner, which allows DC to tell standalone stories outside its main universe.
Keanu Reeves, of course, is all in. During an interview while promoting his latest film Good Fortune , he shared that a new draft of the Constantine 2 script had just come in, and he’s planning to take it to DC Studios soon. “Hopefully they like it too,” he said with a grin, crossing his fingers. Reeves has been pushing for this sequel for years, and his passion for the role is what keeps the idea alive. It’s clear he wants to revisit the tormented exorcist and occult detective who straddles the line between Heaven and Hell — not as an action hero like John Wick, but as a deeply spiritual and mysterious figure.
Interestingly, Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the original, mentioned earlier this year that Reeves was particular about keeping the tone close to the first movie — dark, philosophical, and grounded in the supernatural. According to Stormare, Reeves isn’t looking for a flashy, over-the-top blockbuster filled with explosions and flying cars. Instead, he wants to keep that eerie, introspective energy that made the original Constantine such a beloved sleeper hit.
Directed by Francis Lawrence , the first film was a blend of noir, horror, and theology, and it grew into one of the most respected cult films in the DC lineup. Now, with Lawrence and writer-producer Akiva Goldsman returning, the sequel is shaping up to be a true continuation rather than a reboot.
So, after nearly two decades of waiting, the gates of Hell might just open again — not for another war between angels and demons, but for Keanu Reeves’ long-overdue return as John Constantine. Fans are cautiously optimistic, but this time, it genuinely feels like the spell is finally being cast.
