What a night it turned out to be in South Wales, as Manchester City came from behind to beat Swansea City 3–1 and secure their place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals. It was one of those matches that reminded everyone why knockout football is so gripping — full of energy, tension, and moments of brilliance.

Swansea fans had plenty to cheer early on. Just 12 minutes into the game, Gonçalo Franco produced a stunning strike that flew into the top corner. Despite their best defensive efforts, they struggled to keep up with City’s relentless passing and movement. It wasn’t until the 77th minute that the pressure finally broke them. Rayan Cherki threaded a perfectly weighted pass through to Omar Marmoush, who smashed home his first goal of the season to put City ahead.

From that moment, the result felt inevitable. Swansea continued to push, but the difference in quality was showing. Deep into stoppage time, Cherki capped off a fantastic personal performance by sliding in a composed finish to make it 3–1 — sealing City’s spot in the last eight of the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s men showed the composure and depth that have made them serial winners in recent years. For Swansea, it was a valiant effort. Manager Alan Sheehan praised his team’s spirit and the atmosphere created by the fans, admitting that while they ran out of steam, their attitude and energy were “wonderful.”

For Manchester City, this was the response they needed after a tough loss to Aston Villa days earlier. They’ll now host Brentford in the quarter-finals, with their eyes set firmly on another piece of silverware. As for Swansea, this performance — full of heart and ambition — will give them plenty of confidence as they return to their Championship campaign.
