Metrolinx Expands GO Train Service with New Trips and Schedule Updates
Big changes are on the way for GO Train commuters, as Metrolinx is rolling out a new set of trips and schedule adjustments starting Monday. The goal behind this move is simple — to make travel smoother, reduce congestion, and offer more reliable service during rush hours across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Five major GO Train lines will see updates, and the biggest boost comes to the Lakeshore East line , where six new rush-hour trips are being added. One of these new morning trains will start from Durham College Oshawa GO , while two others will leave from Whitby GO heading toward Union Station. In the afternoon, three additional trips will depart from Union back toward Whitby, giving commuters more flexibility during the busiest hours of the day.
The Stouffville Line is also getting an upgrade. A new morning trip will leave Unionville GO at 7:59 a.m. , making all local stops toward Union Station. Then, in the afternoon, another train will head back from Union at 4:50 p.m. , stopping at every station before ending at Unionville. These additions are expected to ease the morning and evening crowding that’s often seen on this line.

On the Barrie Line , two extra rush-hour trips are being introduced as well. One morning train will depart Aurora GO at 7:20 a.m. , and in the evening, a return trip from Union Station at 4:53 p.m. will make all stops back to Aurora. These updates aim to give northern commuters more options for getting into and out of the city efficiently.
For those who use the Richmond Hill Line , it’s important to note that all southbound trips will now leave up to seven minutes earlier than before — a small change that could make a big difference for anyone cutting it close in the mornings.
There’s also exciting news for travelers in Hamilton and Niagara . The opening of the brand-new Confederation GO Station on October 27 will expand access to GO services in those regions. All existing Lakeshore West trains running between Niagara Falls and Toronto will now stop at the new station. And starting November 1 , weekend service between Union Station and Niagara Falls will increase from three to four daily trips , giving weekend travelers even more options for their getaway plans.
Metrolinx says these adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to match train schedules with real travel times and better reflect how riders actually use the network. Commuters are encouraged to double-check updated schedules on the GO Transit website before heading out, just to make sure they don’t miss any of the new — or earlier — trains.
Overall, these updates mark another step in Metrolinx’s long-term plan to improve regional connectivity, making the daily commute a little easier and a lot more reliable for thousands of riders.
