Powell’s Explosive Finish Powers West Indies Past Bangladesh
West Indies kicked off their T20I series against Bangladesh with a bang in Chattogram, thanks to an electrifying partnership between Shai Hope and Rovman Powell. Their combined fireworks with the bat set the tone for a thrilling 16-run victory that gave the visitors an early lead in the series. For Powell, though, this wasn’t just another game — it was his 100th T20 international, and he made sure to celebrate it in style.
After being named Player of the Match for his match-winning knock, Powell reflected on the journey that brought him here. He said he was proud of the consistency and hard work that had shaped his career over the years. “It’s not every day someone gets to play 100 T20Is for the West Indies,” he said, clearly moved by the milestone. “It shows the hard work that I’ve put in over the duration of my career. A lot of credit goes to my family, friends, and the teammates who have been part of my journey. Getting the Man-of-the-Match award in my 100th game makes it even more special.”

Powell explained that his approach to batting hasn’t changed much in recent times — it’s all about timing his acceleration. “I think it’s a batting template that I’ve used over the last year or two,” he said. “I try to get a good start, build some momentum, and then go all out in the last five overs. That’s when I aim to hit as many sixes as possible.” And that’s exactly what he did — unleashing a flurry of boundaries in the death overs to push the total beyond Bangladesh’s reach.
The West Indies’ bowlers then backed up the effort brilliantly. Jayden Seales and Jason Holder both picked up three wickets each, ensuring that Bangladesh’s chase never quite took off. The home side was bowled out for 149 in 19.4 overs, falling short despite a few flashes of resistance.
Powell was quick to praise his bowling unit for sticking to their plans under testing conditions. “It was quite wet toward the end, which made things tricky. But credit to the bowlers — they kept their composure and took wickets at crucial moments,” he said. “If one of the main Bangladeshi batters had stayed longer, it could’ve been a different story. But our bowlers handled it well.”
With this win, the West Indies not only gained early momentum in the series but also showcased the blend of experience and flair that defines their modern T20 identity. For Powell, it was more than just another victory — it was a statement, a milestone, and a moment of personal pride that perfectly captured his explosive spirit on the field.
