Prague Airport Invests 34 Million Crowns to Build Stronger Local Ties

Prague Airport has been quietly but consistently proving that being a good neighbor goes far beyond just keeping the planes running on time. In 2025, the airport allocated an impressive CZK 34 million toward local community projects—ranging from education and culture to environmental protection and sustainability. This initiative, known as Dobré sousedství , which translates to “Good Neighbourhood,” reflects the airport’s long-standing effort to maintain positive relationships with the surrounding communities that are most affected by its operations.

For years, Prague Airport has positioned itself not just as a major transportation hub, but as an active and responsible local partner. Through open grant programs, it supports municipalities and nonprofit organizations located around Václav Havel Airport. Out of 147 applications submitted this year, 87 projects were selected to receive funding worth a total of CZK 15 million. These projects range widely in focus — from installing solar panels on a kindergarten roof to restoring an inline skating track, creating a rest area for tourists, and even hosting a traditional autumn folklore festival.

According to Jiří Kraus, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Prague Airport, it was essential to continue supporting the communities that live closest to the airport. “We consider it natural to invest in regions directly affected by airport operations,” he shared. He also noted that the total funding amount was slightly lower this year since an additional CZK 10 million had already been distributed earlier in the summer to municipalities impacted by runway closures.

Since the Dobré sousedství program was launched back in 2007, nearly 800 community projects have been supported, with combined funding exceeding CZK 180 million. Even during challenging periods such as the pandemic, the airport remained committed to the initiative, which covers a wide range of causes including education, youth activities, cultural preservation, sports, and environmental care.

Another notable component of the airport’s contribution is its Biodiverzita (Biodiversity) fund, introduced in 2022 as part of its sustainability strategy. This year, nearly CZK 3 million was awarded to 11 eco-focused projects. Among them were the restoration of a historic orchard near RuzynÄ› cemetery, the stabilization of tree lines along the Kopaninský stream to prevent soil erosion, and the creation of insect habitats to boost biodiversity. Some of these projects also include hands-on environmental education for children, encouraging the next generation to understand and appreciate nature through direct experience.

Through these targeted efforts, Prague Airport isn’t just supporting local development—it’s nurturing a sense of shared growth and environmental responsibility. By investing in both people and planet, it demonstrates that progress and sustainability can truly take off together.
