Remembrance Day 2025: Honouring Heroes Across Oldham and Redbridge

This November, communities in Oldham and the London Borough of Redbridge are preparing to come together to observe Remembrance Day 2025, a time-honoured occasion dedicated to remembering those who gave their lives in service to their country. Falling on Sunday, November 9 this year, Remembrance Sunday coincides closely with November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that brought the First World War to an end. It is a day marked by solemnity, reflection, and gratitude, and across both boroughs, services and parades have been planned to ensure the sacrifices of the armed forces are honoured.

In Oldham town centre, the service at the War Memorial opposite the Old Town Hall is set to begin at 10:50am, with a procession assembling earlier on New Radcliffe Street at 10:20am. Participants, including ex-service and civilian organisations, will accompany the Mayor, and crosses may be laid in the Field of Remembrance beside the memorial. Other areas across Oldham will also hold services: Chadderton will gather behind Chadderton Reform Club at 10am with a service at 10:55am; Crompton’s parade starts at 10:30am at the Royal British Legion Club, with the service at 10:55am; and Failsworth’s procession leaves from Failsworth Pole at 10:10am to reach the War Memorial for the service at 10:55am. In Royton, uniformed service members will assemble behind Boyes store at 10:40am and march to Royton Park, followed by a ceremonial march past the Town Hall. Saddleworth will hold two services: one at the Pots and Pans memorial at 10:50am on November 9, and another at St Chad’s Memorial opposite Uppermill Library at 7pm on November 10.

Meanwhile, in Redbridge, communities will also gather in reflection. A special dedication of the Field of Remembrance is scheduled at Woodford War Memorial on Saturday, November 8, beginning at 9:00am. On Remembrance Sunday itself, the Civic Service at Ilford War Memorial will start at 10:50am, with the gates closing promptly at 10:40am. Hainault War Memorial will host a service at 10:45am, followed by Wanstead War Memorial at 12:30pm. Additional services are planned for Tuesday, November 11, at Fairlop Waters Country Park and the Snaresbrook Memorial Garden, both beginning in the late morning.

These services provide residents with an opportunity to come together, pay their respects, and honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served. Even for those unable to attend, the Royal British Legion offers resources and ideas for commemorating the day at home. Remembrance Day remains a poignant reminder of the legacy of service, the bravery of countless individuals, and the collective gratitude of communities who continue to remember their fallen heroes each November.
