Tributes Flow for Only Fools Star Patrick Murray at 68
Patrick Murray, best remembered by millions for his role as Mickey Pearce in the beloved sitcom Only Fools and Horses , has sadly passed away at the age of 68 after a long and difficult battle with cancer. His death has touched fans deeply, as tributes have poured in from colleagues, friends, and devoted admirers of the classic comedy.
For two decades, Murray’s Mickey Pearce was part of the fabric of British television. The cheeky Cockney character, known for his overconfidence, quick-talking schemes, and hilarious exaggerations, appeared in 20 episodes between 1983 and 2003. Often seen joining Del Boy and Rodney in their wheeler-dealer antics, Mickey’s charm came from his mischievous swagger and his habit of bragging about both his business acumen and supposed romantic conquests. He was a character viewers loved to laugh at, and Murray brought him to life with impeccable comic timing.

Away from the screen, Murray’s life was filled with both achievements and challenges. He took roles in films such as Curse of the Pink Panther and The Firm , before stepping back from acting and later working as a taxi driver in Kent. He faced personal struggles with alcohol but overcame them through support programs, finding stability outside of the limelight.
In recent years, Murray shared openly with fans about his health battles. In 2021, he revealed a diagnosis of lung cancer and underwent surgery and chemotherapy, later saying he had been given the all-clear. Sadly, further complications followed when another malignant tumor was discovered in his liver, requiring part of the organ to be removed. He continued to update fans with honesty and optimism, even when cancer returned in 2023.
On a personal note, Murray married his wife Anong in 2016, and together they had a daughter, Josie. For a time, he lived in Thailand before returning to the UK, where he worked as an executive driver to support his family. Patrick Murray will be remembered not only for the laughter he brought into people’s homes but also for his resilience, openness, and warmth in life. His legacy as Mickey Pearce will continue to bring smiles for generations to come, and his loss is being felt across the entertainment world and beyond.
