All Eyes on the 2025 NYC Marathon: Runners, Route, and How to Watch
It’s that time of the year again when New York City transforms into a massive celebration of endurance, energy, and emotion — the TCS New York City Marathon. Every first Sunday of November, the city welcomes more than 50,000 runners from across the globe, and this year marks the 54th running of one of the world’s most iconic races. From elite athletes to everyday heroes and even a handful of celebrities, everyone is ready to test their limits across the five boroughs.
The marathon kicks off early Sunday morning, November 2, 2025. The professional men’s wheelchair division starts rolling at 8:00 a.m., followed by the women’s wheelchair athletes at 8:02. The elite women’s race begins at 8:35 a.m., the elite men’s at 9:05, and then thousands of other runners start in staggered waves throughout the morning. Some of the earliest finishers are expected to cross the line around 9:30 a.m., while others will be finishing well into the evening.
The route itself is pure New York. Runners begin in Staten Island, make their way through Brooklyn’s lively neighborhoods, pass into Queens, and then tackle the challenging Queensboro Bridge before emerging onto Manhattan’s First Avenue. After a quick loop through the Bronx, the final miles wind through Central Park — a fittingly dramatic finish line for this 26.2-mile journey.
Road closures will be extensive throughout the five boroughs, with many major streets and bridges closed from early morning through late afternoon. The NYPD and city officials are working around the clock to ensure both safety and smooth logistics for participants and spectators. If you’re not along the route, you can still follow all the action live — coverage begins at 7:00 a.m. on Channel 7 with the pre-race show, and the full marathon broadcast starts at 8:00 a.m. on Channel 7 and ESPN2.

This year’s marathon has an extra spark thanks to an influx of celebrity participants. Reality TV star Joey Graziadei, known from The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars , will be running his first-ever official race. Broadway actor Jordan Litz, who stars in Wicked , plans to complete the marathon before rushing to perform two live shows that same day. Other familiar faces include “Love Island’s” Nic Vansteenberghe, musician Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie, and Dance Moms star Chloe Lukasiak.
Even professional athletes and Paralympians like Ali Truwit are part of this year’s field, proving that the marathon’s spirit goes far beyond competition — it’s about resilience, pride, and pushing personal boundaries. As the runners make their way through cheering crowds and city landmarks, millions of viewers around the world will be following along, inspired by every stride.
Whether you’re tracking your favorite runner, watching from home, or standing curbside with a sign and a smile, the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon is more than a race — it’s a day when New York’s heart beats in unison with the world.
