Ariana Grande Steps Up for Cynthia Erivo at ‘Wicked: For Good’ Premiere
Hey everyone, here’s a fun moment from the red carpet that’s been making waves. Last night in New York City, the premiere of Wicked: For Good brought out a star-studded crowd, and one moment in particular had everyone smiling. Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, had lost her voice just before the event. But no worries—Ariana Grande, her co-star, was there to save the day.
The press had initially been told that interviews wouldn’t happen because of Erivo’s voice, but the two still made a stop on the official E! livestream. Only Grande had a microphone, and she cheekily made a point to let everyone know that Erivo needed to rest. “I’m not letting her speak. She has to rest her voice!” Grande said, as Erivo stood beside her, smiling and nodding along.

Despite the voice setback, Grande managed to highlight their big upcoming projects. The duo is nominated for a Grammy next year for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song “Defying Gravity.” Grande also gave a shoutout to Erivo’s upcoming solo album and her book, Simply More . She even turned to Erivo mid-interview and jokingly asked, “Am I doing OK?”—which got a laugh from her co-star.
When the conversation turned reflective, Grande shared the emotions of finishing the Oz-set story. She described the experience as one filled with “overwhelming gratitude,” praising the cast and crew not just for their creativity but for the great hearts behind the project. She added that fans would finally get the full story and arc of these beloved characters. At one point, Erivo whispered something to Grande, and despite a little trouble hearing it, she repeated it into the mic, saying, “It’s really beautiful that we’re finishing here, where it started.” A heartfelt nod to New York City and the Gershwin Theater, home of the original Wicked musical since 2003.
The premiere came after a hectic press tour, which had even included a bizarre incident in Singapore where an intruder accosted Grande. While they didn’t address that directly at the New York premiere, Grande acknowledged how intense the schedule had been and reassured fans that Erivo was taking care of her voice.
All in all, it was a night that showed just how much camaraderie exists between these two stars. With Wicked: For Good set to hit theaters this Friday, fans can look forward to seeing their chemistry and talent shine on the big screen. And thanks to Ariana Grande’s playful and supportive energy, Cynthia Erivo’s voice issue didn’t stop the premiere from being a memorable moment.
It was a red carpet moment filled with laughter, teamwork, and excitement—exactly what you’d hope for when two powerhouse performers come together.
