Australia Post Restores Weekend Deliveries Ahead of Christmas Rush
Big news for online shoppers across Australia: Australia Post is bringing back weekend deliveries just in time for the Christmas rush. Starting this Saturday, parcels will be arriving any day of the week in metro capital cities and selected regional areas. This move has been introduced to cope with the enormous surge in online orders expected during the festive season, especially following major shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Gary Starr, Australia Post’s Executive General Manager for Parcels, Post, and eCommerce Services, explained that the additional weekend service is designed to keep deliveries running smoothly during this peak period. “With Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, we’re anticipating a huge increase in parcel volumes and online shopping activity,” Starr said. He added that last year nearly 103 million parcels were delivered over Black Friday alone, and the goal this year is to do even more. Weekend deliveries are one of the ways Australia Post is stepping up to support customers and make sure parcels reach their destinations on time.

To handle the expected influx, Australia Post has expanded its resources. This includes the addition of more free Parcel Lockers and the opening of new, dedicated parcel-focused post offices. Many of these locations, particularly in metro areas across NSW, VIC, QLD, and ACT, now offer 24/7 self-serve options to make sending and collecting parcels easier than ever.
For shoppers wanting to guarantee Christmas delivery, Australia Post has also shared key cut-off dates. For parcels sent within the same state in metro areas, the last day for standard Parcel Post is Monday, December 22, and for Express Post, it’s Tuesday, December 23. Interstate metro deliveries must be sent by Friday, December 19 for Parcel Post and Tuesday, December 23 for Express Post. Those sending parcels to or from Western Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania, or regional and remote locations are advised to allow a few extra days.
Overall, Australia Post is preparing for what is expected to be one of the busiest holiday seasons yet. With weekend deliveries back and additional resources in place, the service is focused on ensuring that gifts and packages arrive on time, keeping the Christmas spirit alive for millions of Australians.
The takeaway is clear: if you’re planning on sending parcels this Christmas, now is the time to get organized. Stick to the deadlines, make use of the expanded services, and take advantage of weekend deliveries to ensure your gifts reach their destinations without a hitch. The festive season is officially in full swing, and Australia Post is doing its part to make it run smoothly.
