Bears Edge Steelers in Thrilling 31-28 Victory to Secure 8th Win in 9 Games
In a nail-biting contest at Soldier Field, the Chicago Bears held off the Pittsburgh Steelers to secure a 31-28 victory, marking their eighth win in the last nine games. It was a game full of drama, turnovers, and timely plays from both teams, but the Bears ultimately prevailed, improving their record to 8-3.
The game got off to an electric start with the Bears striking first. Quarterback Caleb Williams connected with wide receiver DJ Moore for a 5-yard touchdown, capping off an 8-play, 56-yard drive that was set up by an interception from cornerback Nahshon Wright. The Steelers answered back, though, as Mason Rudolph, filling in for the injured Aaron Rodgers, threw a screen pass to DK Metcalf for a quick touchdown, tying the game at 7-7.

However, the game quickly took a turn in the second quarter. The Bears faced a setback when a strip-sack from Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt resulted in a touchdown for Pittsburgh, giving them a 14-7 lead. But the Bears weren't fazed. Caleb Williams responded with a touchdown pass to tight end Colston Loveland, tying the game once again at 14-14. The Steelers reclaimed the lead briefly, but the Bears were not going down without a fight.
In the second half, the Bears took control. A 25-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Moore gave the Bears a 24-21 lead, and then, with just over seven minutes left in the game, running back Kyle Monangai powered through for a 10-yard touchdown, extending the Bears’ lead to 31-24. The Steelers made one last push, cutting the lead to a single point with a touchdown to Pat Freiermuth, but the Bears' defense stepped up when it mattered most, and the offense ran out the clock to secure the win.
Key to the Bears' success were their defense and special teams. They forced two crucial turnovers, both of which were converted into points. Defensive end Montez Sweat and defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Jr. were particularly active in the trenches, pressuring Rudolph throughout the game. The Bears’ defense also stood tall when it was needed most, forcing the Steelers to burn precious time in the final moments of the game.
Despite missing key players like linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and offensive tackle Theo Benedet, the Bears found a way to get the job done. It wasn’t the cleanest of wins, with turnovers and missed opportunities, but the Bears proved once again that they have the resilience to win tight games. With a strong 8-3 record, they now look ahead to the rest of the season, where they aim to maintain their momentum and continue their playoff push.
