Bedard Shines as Blackhawks Shut Out Flames 4-0

Tonight, at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Chicago Blackhawks delivered an impressive performance, cruising past the Calgary Flames 4-0, thanks to a dominant display from Connor Bedard and goaltender Spencer Knight. Bedard recorded a goal and three assists, extending his point streak to seven games and now totaling 15 points in that stretch. It’s the second-longest streak of his NHL career, and it highlighted just how lethal he can be when paired with skilled teammates. “I’m playing with great players that are making the game easy on me,” Bedard said, reflecting on his continued success.

Knight, meanwhile, stopped 33 shots, earning his first shutout of the season and the sixth of his NHL career. He praised his teammates for their commitment on both ends of the ice. “I thought it was a really good team effort,” Knight said. “Guys played really hard in all areas of the ice … it was a complete effort from everyone.” Chicago’s Tyler Bertuzzi had a standout night as well, scoring twice, including a power-play goal late in the first period that gave Chicago a 1-0 lead. Andre Burakovsky also contributed with a goal and an assist, helping the Blackhawks secure their second straight win after a rough start to their six-game road trip. Bertuzzi, riding the momentum from a hat trick earlier in the week, now has six goals in his last four games.

The Flames, who had won their previous two games, struggled offensively against a relentless Chicago defense. Goaltender Dustin Wolf made 23 saves but was unable to keep his team on the scoreboard. Flames defenseman MacKenzie Weegar admitted the team lacked energy, especially in the first period, and the Flames were shut out for the first time this season. Calgary’s rookie defenseman Zayne Parekh left the game in the second period after a hard collision, highlighting some of the challenges the Flames faced on the back end.

Chicago pulled away decisively in the third period, with Bedard assisting on Bertuzzi’s second goal of the night, setting up Burakovsky for the third goal, and then finishing things off himself with a slick breakaway goal late in the frame. Bedard’s performance not only extended his streak but also made him the youngest Blackhawks player to reach 150 career points at just 20 years old, surpassing Eddie Olczyk.

Despite outshooting Chicago, the Flames couldn’t find the finish around the net, as Knight held firm on every attempt. The game underscored Chicago’s growing chemistry, particularly between Bedard and Bertuzzi, and exposed some ongoing issues for Calgary, including turnovers and defensive lapses. By the final buzzer, it was clear that the Blackhawks’ offense and defense were firing on all cylinders, leaving the Flames frustrated and scoreless once again.

The win pushes Chicago’s record to 7-5-3, giving them a boost on their road trip, while Calgary remains at the bottom of the NHL standings with a 4-10-2 record, searching for answers as their offensive struggles continue.
