Belgium Dominates Liechtenstein 7-0 to Secure 2026 World Cup Spot
In a resounding display of power, Belgium triumphed 7-0 over Liechtenstein on November 18, 2025, securing their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The match, held at the heated Sclessin stadium, was a spectacle of goals that left little doubt about Belgium’s dominance. The win not only cemented Belgium’s place in their fourth consecutive World Cup but also showcased the team's attacking prowess.
The game began with a lightning-fast goal in the second minute. Hans Vanaken took advantage of a poorly cleared ball from the Liechtenstein defense, heading it past the helpless goalkeeper, Büchel. Belgium's early pressure continued, and just after the half-hour mark, they doubled their lead. Alexis Saelemaekers sent a clever pass to Jeremy Doku, who calmly slotted it home for a 2-0 advantage. But Doku wasn’t done yet. In the 41st minute, he picked up the ball in the center of the field, danced past two defenders, and unleashed a perfect strike into the far corner to make it 3-0.

The second half was a blur of goals, as Belgium turned up the heat. Seven minutes into the restart, Brandon Mechele scored the fourth goal after a well-placed cross was flicked by Charles De Ketelaere. Then, things got even more chaotic. Alexis Saelemaekers pounced on a rebound from Tielemans' powerful shot, netting Belgium's fifth. A minute later, De Ketelaere made it 6-0, finishing off a smooth assist from Doku. Not to be outdone, De Ketelaere added his second goal in the 59th minute, heading in a loose ball from a Meunier miss to make it 7-0.
Despite several substitutions later in the match, including fresh legs from Axel Witsel, Loïs Openda, and Dodi Lukebakio, the relentless attacking of the Belgian team showed no signs of slowing down. Liechtenstein, although resilient, couldn’t handle the overwhelming firepower from the Diables Rouges.
With the win, Belgium topped Group J with 18 points, ensuring their automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Meanwhile, Liechtenstein ended their campaign without a point, firmly at the bottom of the group. The focus now shifts to the World Cup draw in December, but for now, Belgium can celebrate a dominant performance and their place among the world's elite teams.
This 7-0 victory not only secured their qualification but also served as a perfect conclusion to Belgium’s impressive 2025 campaign. With such a powerful squad, Belgium will head into the World Cup confident and ready for the challenge ahead.
