Boca Raton Couple Arrested Over Child Abuse Incident Involving Mouthwash
In a shocking incident in Boca Raton, Florida, a local couple has been charged with child abuse following an alarming episode involving their child and a bottle of mouthwash. According to the Boca Raton Police Department, Robert DeBlasio, 51, and his wife Angel DeBlasio, 45, were arrested early Wednesday morning after an argument at their apartment escalated into physical discipline.
Officers were called to the residence at 5301 Town Bay Drive around 3 a.m. on October 30 after reports of a missing child. When police located the child inside the home, he explained that a verbal disagreement had turned physical the night before. The conflict reportedly began over issues related to the child’s medication and a new school enrollment.

The child told investigators that during the argument, he had pushed Angel to get her attention. In response, she called Robert, who then held the child down on the couch while Angel attempted to pour mouthwash into his mouth as a form of punishment. Some of the liquid reportedly splashed onto the child’s face and into his eyes, prompting further concern from authorities.
Both parents reportedly admitted to police that they had restrained the child and tried to pour mouthwash into his mouth. Based on their statements and the circumstances, officers concluded that Robert had “willfully abused” the child through an act that could cause mental injury, citing Florida Statute 827.03(2)(c). Both Robert and Angel DeBlasio were taken into custody and booked at the Palm Beach County Main Detention Center.
The couple appeared in court on Friday morning for their first hearing, where the judge found probable cause for both arrests. They were released on their own recognizance but under strict conditions, including a no-contact order with the victim. In Angel DeBlasio’s case, the order specifically prohibits her from contacting any minor children without approval from the Department of Children and Families. A follow-up court hearing has been scheduled for December 4, 2025, giving prosecutors time to file formal charges.
This incident has raised serious concerns in the community about the welfare of children and the consequences of extreme disciplinary measures.
