Brentford Stun Newcastle with Late Comeback at the Gtech
What a night it was at the Gtech Community Stadium! Brentford pulled off a thrilling 3–1 comeback victory over Newcastle United in a game that had just about everything — goals, drama, a red card, and a crowd that never stopped believing.
It all started off looking promising for Newcastle. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a sharp finish, slipping the ball through Brentford keeper Caoimhin Kelleher’s legs. That early goal gave Newcastle a boost, and for a while, they looked comfortable. But as we’ve seen so often this season, their control on the road didn’t last long.
Brentford came out in the second half looking like a completely different team. They started pressing higher, attacking with intent, and feeding off the energy from the home crowd. The equalizer came just before the hour mark when Kevin Schade nodded home from close range after Sven Botman’s attempted clearance fell kindly inside the box. Suddenly, the momentum had completely shifted.

Things went from bad to worse for Newcastle when Dan Burn brought down Dango Ouattara inside the area. It was his second reckless challenge in just a few minutes, and referee Stuart Attwell had no choice but to point to the spot — and then show Burn his second yellow card, sending him off. That left Newcastle down to ten men, and from there, it was all Brentford.
Igor Thiago stepped up for the penalty and coolly sent substitute goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale the wrong way. Ramsdale had just come on for the injured Nick Pope, and his first real touch was picking the ball out of the net.
As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Brentford weren’t done yet. Thiago pounced again after Malick Thiaw failed to deal with a through ball, slotting home his second of the night to seal the win. The stadium erupted — and with that, Brentford had claimed yet another big scalp at home.
This victory wasn’t just about three points; it was about Brentford’s growing reputation as a team that thrives on home turf. Under Keith Andrews, they’ve already beaten Liverpool, Manchester United, and Aston Villa at the Gtech this season. Their confidence is sky-high, and with Thiago in this kind of form — scoring his eighth and ninth goals of the campaign — he’s starting to look like one of the Premier League’s breakout stars.
For Newcastle, though, it’s another chapter in what’s becoming a worrying pattern. They’ve now gone winless away from home since April and sit 14th in the table. Eddie Howe’s men looked disjointed, sluggish, and short on belief once again.
As Brentford fans celebrated and even cheekily reminded former player Yoane Wissa — now at Newcastle — of the scoreline, it was clear who owned the night. The Bees buzzed loud, and the Gtech felt every bit like a fortress once more.
