You know those rare, once-in-a-lifetime musical moments that just seem too good to be true? Well, one of those happened back in 2004, and it involved none other than AC/DC’s legendary frontman Brian Johnson and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti. The setting? A wedding. Not just any wedding, but that of former Major League Baseball star Johnny Damon, held in Florida. Tremonti was invited as a friend of Damon’s, who happened to live in the same neighborhood. Little did anyone know, the night was about to turn into an unforgettable rock ‘n’ roll jam session.

In a recent interview, Tremonti recalled how the idea even came about. Someone nudged him, saying, “You should go up to Brian and see if he wants to get onstage and jam with you. Go barge in on the wedding band’s gear!” Tremonti didn’t hesitate. He spotted Brian Johnson grabbing a drink, walked up, and casually introduced himself: “Hi, Brian, I’m Mark, I’m a guitar player. Do you want to go onstage and jam some songs?” Johnson’s response was immediate and enthusiastic—“Yeah, mate!”—without a second thought.

What followed was pure magic. The two musicians went on to play three songs together, though Tremonti only clearly remembers the first one: “Rock And Roll” from Led Zeppelin’s iconic 1971 album, Led Zeppelin IV . Interestingly, not a single AC/DC song was played that night, a fun twist considering Johnson’s legendary status with the band. As the jam continued, other guests joined in, adding vocals and turning the impromptu performance into a full-on collaborative celebration.

This moment came at a pivotal time for Tremonti. Earlier that year, Creed, the band he had helped lead to multi-Platinum success, had officially split. By June 2004, he had launched Alter Bridge alongside singer Myles Kennedy and ex-Creed members Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips. Their debut single, Open Your Eyes , was released just a week after Creed’s breakup became public. So, this spontaneous jam with Brian Johnson came at a time of both uncertainty and new beginnings for Tremonti, making it even more memorable.

Fast forward to today, Alter Bridge has released seven studio albums, with their eighth self-titled album set to drop in January 2026. Meanwhile, AC/DC continues to electrify audiences worldwide, with a 2026 tour scheduled across South and North America, kicking off in São Paulo, Brazil. That night in Florida remains a shining example of rock legends connecting in the most unexpected of places—a wedding reception turned stage for one of the most extraordinary jam sessions fans could ever imagine.

It’s moments like these that remind us why rock music, in all its spontaneity and energy, continues to captivate generations. Who would have thought that a casual invitation at a baseball player’s wedding would lead to an iconic collaboration between two rock heavyweights, paying homage to Led Zeppelin in the most unpretentious, joyful way possible?
