Connor Bedard Dazzles as Blackhawks Shut Out Flames in Calgary
It was one of those nights in Calgary where all eyes were on one player — and he absolutely delivered. Connor Bedard, the 20-year-old phenom from North Vancouver, put on a spectacular performance as the Chicago Blackhawks cruised past the Calgary Flames with a dominant 4-0 victory at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Back in a building that holds plenty of fond junior hockey memories from his Regina Pats days, Bedard seemed right at home. He scored a goal and notched three primary assists, showcasing exactly why he’s already being talked about as one of the NHL’s brightest young stars. With that four-point performance, Bedard extended his point streak to seven games and climbed to within one point of the league’s scoring lead — trailing only San Jose’s Macklin Celebrini.
Tyler Bertuzzi also had himself a night, scoring twice — including a slick one-timer off a perfect pass from Bedard early in the third period — while Andre Burakovsky added another to seal the win. But make no mistake, this was Bedard’s show from start to finish. His playmaking, patience, and hockey IQ were on full display. Even when Calgary tried to pressure him physically, he found ways to make plays and keep the Blackhawks’ offense humming.

Behind him, goaltender Spencer Knight stood tall for Chicago, turning away all 33 Calgary shots to record his first shutout of the season. It was a special performance, especially considering Knight was facing his former U.S. junior teammate, Dustin Wolf, at the other end of the ice. Knight now sits at 6-3-2 on the season and continues to prove he’s more than ready to take on a leading role for this team.
For the Flames, it was another frustrating night. Despite outshooting Chicago and generating several close chances, they simply couldn’t find a way past Knight. Calgary has struggled to score all season — and Friday marked the sixth time they’ve been held to one goal or less. Rookie defenseman Zayne Parekh left the game after a heavy hit, adding to the team’s woes on the blue line.
After the game, Chicago coach Jeff Blashill praised Bedard for his maturity and growth this season. “He’s not just putting up points — he’s playing winning hockey,” Blashill said. “That’s what’s impressed me most.”
With 22 points already through 15 games, Bedard is pacing for a breakout season — one that could see him far surpass last year’s totals. And if Friday’s game was any indication, the Blackhawks might just have found their spark again, led by a young star who seems destined for greatness.
Chicago now heads to Detroit for their next matchup, while the Flames will look to regroup as they begin a road trip against Minnesota. But for now, Calgary fans can only tip their caps — Connor Bedard came back to town, and he stole the show.
