Cowboys Stumble as Cardinals Steal the Spotlight on Monday Night Football
It was supposed to be a statement night for the Dallas Cowboys, but instead, it turned into another painful chapter in what’s becoming a tough season. On Monday night, under the bright lights of AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys were handed a 27-17 loss by the Arizona Cardinals — a team that had dropped five straight games before this upset.
Fans expected a strong rebound performance from Dak Prescott and company, especially at home, but things didn’t go according to plan. The Cowboys’ offense just couldn’t find its rhythm early on. Prescott spent much of the game under pressure, getting sacked five times and finishing with 250 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Even with solid efforts from CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jake Ferguson, Dallas struggled badly in the red zone — converting only 33% of their opportunities and failing twice on fourth-and-goal.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals looked surprisingly sharp behind backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who stepped in for the injured Kyler Murray. Brissett threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns, posting an impressive 115.1 passer rating. Rookie standout Marvin Harrison Jr. was a constant threat, racking up seven catches for 96 yards, most of them coming in key first-half moments.

The Cowboys actually started strong, marching down the field with ease before stalling at the 4-yard line and turning it over on downs. From there, Arizona took control — scoring first with a field goal, then quickly finding the end zone in the second quarter. Dallas did get a spark when Sam Williams blocked a punt that Marshawn Kneeland recovered for a touchdown, but that was about as good as it got.
By halftime, the Cardinals were up 17-7, and things unraveled from there. Brissett connected with his receivers for another quick touchdown early in the third quarter, and though Dallas added a field goal, they continued to fall short when it mattered most. Even when Prescott led a late drive and finally hit Ryan Flournoy for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, it was too little, too late.
Defensively, the Cowboys couldn’t get off the field. Arizona converted more than half of its third downs and dominated time of possession, keeping Dallas’ offense on the sidelines for much of the night.
So now, the Cowboys head into their bye week sitting at 3-5-1 — frustrated, bruised, and searching for answers on both sides of the ball. They’ll have two weeks to regroup before facing the Las Vegas Raiders in another prime-time Monday night matchup.
For fans who missed the game or want to catch future Monday Night Football showdowns, they can tune in live on ESPN or ABC, or stream through services like Fubo (with a free trial), Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV Stream, or Sling TV. Kickoff for the Cowboys’ next MNF game will again be at 8:15 p.m. ET.
It’s safe to say — after a night like this — Dallas fans will be hoping that the next one tells a much better story.
