Eagles Grind Out Defensive Battle to Edge Packers 10–7 at Lambeau

What a game that was — if you’re a fan of defense, that is. The Philadelphia Eagles managed to pull off a gritty 10–7 win over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Monday night, but it definitely wasn’t a pretty one. Both offenses struggled to find rhythm, and for a good chunk of the game, it felt like we were watching two brick walls collide. Still, in the end, the Eagles’ defense — and just enough offense — got the job done.

The story of the night was Philly’s defense. It completely smothered Green Bay’s attack for nearly the entire game. The Packers didn’t even manage to score until the final six minutes, after being shut out for the first 54 minutes of play. Every drive was a grind for them, and when it mattered most, the Eagles stood tall. A key fourth-down stop — led by newly acquired defensive end Jaelan Phillips — sealed the deal when he stuffed Josh Jacobs in the backfield late in the game.

But let’s be real — as dominant as the defense was, the offensive side of things wasn’t much to brag about. The first half was brutal. Neither team scored, making it the first 0–0 halftime tie in a Monday Night Football game since 2009. Both Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love struggled to make plays through the air, and each fumbled in scoring territory. The defenses were flying around, forcing mistakes and shutting down every attempt at momentum.

Things finally started to move in the third quarter when the Eagles managed to get a field goal for a 3–0 lead. Then, early in the fourth, we finally saw a touchdown — and what a play it was. Saquon Barkley turned a short screen pass into a 41-yard highlight reel run, setting up Jalen Hurts to find DeVonta Smith for a spectacular 36-yard contested touchdown grab. That put Philly up 10–0, and given how the game had been going, that seemed like more than enough.

The Packers did fight back, though. Jordan Love led a late drive capped by Jacobs’ tough 6-yard touchdown run that dragged defenders across the goal line. That made it 10–7, setting up a dramatic finish. Then came the head-scratching moment — with under a minute left, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni decided to go for it on fourth down instead of punting. The deep pass fell incomplete, giving Green Bay great field position and a shot at a miracle finish.

But luck — or maybe Lambeau’s wind — sided with Philadelphia. The Packers set up for a 64-yard field goal attempt that would’ve been a stadium record. Kicker Brandon McManus gave it his all, but the ball sailed wide, and the Eagles escaped with a win that was as ugly as it was important.

Now at 7–2, Philadelphia keeps its push alive for the NFC’s top playoff seed. It might not have been a game for the highlight reels, but it was the kind of tough, grind-it-out victory that championship teams need to have. And while the play-calling at the end might raise eyebrows for a while, one thing’s for sure — Philly’s defense came to play and saved the night.
