Getta Good Feeling Shines Again at Flemington
It was another unforgettable day at Flemington as Getta Good Feeling proved her rising star status, claiming her second Group 2 victory in the Wakeful Stakes. The Danny O’Brien-trained filly didn’t just meet expectations—she exceeded them—justifying her odds-on favoritism in style and earning a spot as a leading contender for the upcoming VRC Oaks on Thursday.
Racing over 2000 metres for the first time , the talented three-year-old daughter of the late So You Think showed both class and composure. After a strong start, she settled beautifully under jockey Mark Zahra , who guided her perfectly through the race. Getta Good Feeling took control down the Flemington straight, eventually finishing 1.3 lengths ahead of Strictly Business , with Voting Rights another length and a bit behind in third.

Zahra, who had already been enjoying a big day with multiple wins on the card, was full of admiration for the filly’s performance. “She’s a very nice horse to ride,” he said afterwards. “She flew the start, relaxed beautifully, and really just cruised up the straight. She stargazed a bit, which shows she’s still learning, but she did it so effortlessly. It’s exactly the kind of run you want before heading into an Oaks.”
The victory continues a remarkable trend: the Wakeful Stakes has long been seen as the perfect Oaks trial. In fact, 39 fillies have gone on to complete the Wakeful–Oaks double , including last year’s winner Treasurethe Moment . Trainer Danny O’Brien has done it before too—he guided Miami Bound to the same feat back in 2019—and he’s clearly hoping lightning will strike twice.
O’Brien expressed quiet confidence after the race. “We’ve had a high opinion of her since her debut at Geelong,” he said. “This whole spring has gone perfectly to plan for her. She’s strong, big, and beautifully bred—just like her sire So You Think, who won the Mackinnon Stakes on this same day about fifteen years ago. It’s really special to see his daughter performing like this.”
With that win, Getta Good Feeling has now been shortened into $2 favoritism for the VRC Oaks , and her connections are clearly optimistic. The filly has already shown that she can handle the step up in distance, and her temperament seems ideal for the stamina test that awaits.
As she gears up for Thursday’s big race, there’s no doubt the racing world will be watching closely. If she can back up and deliver once more, Getta Good Feeling could well become the 40th filly to etch her name into racing history by completing the iconic Wakeful–Oaks double .
