Grayson Allen Lights Up Pelicans with Career-High 42 Points
Last night, the New Orleans Pelicans faced a tough reality check against the Phoenix Suns, as Grayson Allen put on an absolute shooting clinic. The Suns guard was unstoppable, scoring a career-high 42 points, and he did it in style by draining 10 three-pointers on 15 attempts. That performance not only set a personal milestone for Allen but also tied him with the entire Pelicans team’s three-point output for the night.
The game, played at Mortgage Matchup Center, quickly turned into a one-sided affair after a disastrous second quarter for New Orleans. Despite the Pelicans showing signs of momentum from their recent wins, Phoenix surged ahead with a 22-5 run, opening up a massive lead. By the third quarter, the Suns were ahead by as many as 30 points, and the game was effectively sealed. Devin Booker, usually the one who torches New Orleans, scored just 19 points and sat out the fourth quarter once the outcome was clear.

For the Pelicans, it was a night full of frustration. Coach Willie Green expressed disappointment after the game, emphasizing the need for stronger defense and better communication on that end. New Orleans struggled from the start, committing six turnovers in the first quarter and trailing 29-22. The second quarter only made matters worse, as Phoenix outscored them 35-19.
Individually, Trey Murphy led the Pelicans with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals, marking his second double-double of the season. Saddiq Bey and Jeremiah Fears contributed 15 points each, with Bey also grabbing seven rebounds. Derik Queen came off the bench to add 12 points and six rebounds. Despite these efforts, the team could not keep up with Allen’s red-hot shooting or the Suns’ overall offensive firepower, which included 19 successful three-pointers.
This loss drops New Orleans to 2-8 on the season, and it’s clear they have some adjustments to make, especially on the defensive end, if they hope to compete with high-powered offenses. The Pelicans are set to begin a challenging five-game home stand, starting Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers, followed by matchups with the Lakers, Warriors, Thunder, and Nuggets.
Meanwhile, Allen’s sensational night will be remembered as one of the most impressive shooting performances of the season, a display of precision and scoring ability that left the Pelicans struggling to respond. It’s one of those games where everything seemed to click for a player, and the Suns capitalized fully, making it a night to remember in Phoenix’s favor.
